So entering year 2 of the contention years, still in a pandemic and next year is CBA /possible strike how do you see the Sox payroll ? Do you think it ever gets up to $150M ? Is it higher lower or the same (Approx. $120) for next year ?
I think that Ricky's firing is a sign that the Sox are going to get really serious about winning it all and that the payroll will reflect that. My gut says that somewhere in the neighborhood of $140M is where we end up this season.

Either he was fine with them cheating or wasn’t able to stop them despite his objections. Both indicate poor leadership.
Or he objected to it and team ownership told him to stand down.

Pass on the Odorizzi idea. No thanks

He said today it’s Tony’s job for sure if he wants it, and he thinks he does
Lord. Only the White Sox would be dumb enough to do that.

Earlier this week Bruce Levine said it was Kirk Hasler.
Ok, so the only thing we know for certain is that it won't be Hasler.

I hope it is not somebody out of the org.
I hope that the actual Pitching Coach position is Zaleski, but if other people are added in analytics roles from outside the organization I think that'd be great. Frankly, a larger analytics department on both the hitting and pitching side would be a welcome change.

What do you all think? Two that immediately come to mind are as follows:
1. Matt Zaleski - Charlotte Knights pitching coach. Embraces the analytics, gets great reviews within the organization, knows all our guys. He seems like an easy and solid choice for the position
2. Ethan Katz - Giolito's highschool pitching coach. He is credited with helping turn Giolito around and into a top pitcher in the league. Giolito went from literally the worst starting pitcher, to one of the best. He has to get a look. This is my pick, personally.
Any candidates you have in mind?
I think it's either Zaleski or Teaford. Katz could get a look and that'd certainly be interesting given the other names in Lucas' HS rotation, but RH seemed pretty adamant about pointing out how many great in-house options we have.

I've posted the article here a few times but cooper is directly credited with helping turn it around in an August piece done by Fegan from two years back.
Not to suggest that Coop didn't do anything, but what else is Giolito going to say in that situation? "Boy, my current pitching coach really isn't worth a damn so I went back to my high school coach to fix me." Of course he is going to credit Coop, especially on the record. Only Lucas knows exactly how the turnaround happened and he's never going to come right out and say it because he's not that type of guy.

I didn't watch much of the Astros when Hinch was there, but can anyone speak to how those teams were from a fundamental standpoint? Things like defense, baserunning, etc? I know that there were times this season where stuff like executing a rundown or taking an extra base felt like real challenges and that's the type of stuff that really needs to be second nature. Just curious as to how Hinch prepares his guys in the event that he is the hire.

Shouldn’t Jerry Reinsdorf have similar standards for the city of Chicago and his White Sox franchise?
Nah.

Yeah guess thats true.
Also for the record, I didn't mean to make it seem like he doesn't deserve it. Just curious what exactly qualifies it.
Since baseball is a sport where the results of executive-ing aren't always immediately apparent, I assume that this award is more of a cumulative achievement award. This season, a team that had been "mired in mediocrity" for the better part of a decade became a powerhouse. So I'm not looking at this as a one-year turnaround award, more like a "this is the year everything came together" award.

I think Odorizzi and Gausman are their targets.
I heard they were going to be interested in Odorizzi had he hit the market last year.
Gross. No thanks.

Just what a swagger-filled team of 22 to 25 year-olds really needs, an octagenarian that has openly expressed his disdain for analytics.

I refuse to believe they think that a geriatric is the right man to control a bunch of guys who wear 15 chains, almost totally unbuttoned shirts and take pride in getting under pitchers skins.
Agreed. Analytics aside, TLR doesn't seem like he'd fit the personality of this team at all.

Fair enough. Throw his name off my list, but my question remains.

Maybe Nightengale saying "Right now, he's their number 1 candidate..." is simply because he's the only candidate they can officially speak to at the moment?
Hinch - Suspended
Cora - Suspended
Cash (pipedream) - Playoffs
Espada - Playoffs
Quatraro - Playoffs

The cheating Astros are brought up in a Supreme Court confirmation hearing but sure bring in the assbag ring leader to manage the White Sox.
The "assbag ring leader" was Cora, as evidenced by Boston also getting busted while he was there. Hinch found out about it, destroyed the monitor on more than one occasion, and supposedly notified higher-ups in the organization.
He didn't shut it all the way down, and that's on him. But you're acting like he's Lex Luthor and masterminded the entire operation.

Here’s another issue...how can you hire a 76 year old during a global pandemic? Sucks, but it’s just too risky.
That's honestly a fantastic point that I hadn't thought about

Bernstein was also real quick to talk on Monday about how La Russa seemed to be losing it a bit his last season with the Cards. Which was 9 years ago.
Is there any possibility that TLR actually does get hired by the Sox, but is simply here in an advisory capacity the way he is with the Angels? (Not crazy about that idea either considering the Angels have had the best player on the planet for the last decade and have absolutely zero to show for it).

So what other names are we going to see pop up in the next couple weeks before we're actually able to interview Hinch?

For OF: Any of Springer, Starlin Marte, Nimmo, Conforto, Gallo, Mike Yas/ Yelich (pipe dream trade) would be cool with me.
For SP it is a bit more murky. I don't think we have a chance in hell at Bauer, but I'd take Bauer obviously. IMO we really need a Top starter, so I prefer trade (if we don't get Bauer). Maybe something with Milwaukee for Burnes/Woodruff/Hader in the pipe dream trade (lol). Maybe deGrom (unlikely obviously). I really don't know where the W'Sox can go from here. Not a lot available 😕.
Those 3 guys plus someone like Brantley to DH (assume Vaughn++ would go in the trade) and Gausman (one of the young pitchers would be going to MIL too) this team would be a big problem for the league.
