I'm beginning to wonder if this young man is capable of learning. It has been brought to his attention, by coaches and teammates that he needs to be more aggressive, in two strike counts. Yet, he continues to take called third strikes. I'm sorry, but being a good baseball player requires a certain degree of baseball smarts, or acumen. He better wake up and begin to figure that out, or this League is going to eat him up. If we, as fans, can see this, you have to wonder why he can't. He also continues to try to pull everything. Anderson has discovered that there are a lot of base hits, to be derived from taking outside pitches to the opposite field. Moncada can't seem to grasp that.

I've said it before, but despite taking a lot of pitches, far too many of his at bats are not good at bats. Is anyone else getting tired of his stubborn insistence on doing the same things, over and over again, in spite of less than acceptable results? Do you think that the Boston front office might have thought that he was a "head case"? What a waste of talent? I don't know what Madrigal will amount to, but his baseball acumen will be a refreshing change, after watching Moncada.

    I. apologize for the rant, but it's getting hard to take, especially after the let down over Kopech.

You are gonna get flamed for this post man. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Moncada. Everything is going according to plan with him. Just be patient. He will be putting up numbers that put Javy Baez to shame in two years.

Are you willing to go well over the Samardzija deal on Corbin? 5/$125? He's already said that he wants to pitch for the Yankees so you're going to have to pay that guy.

I don't see JR shelling out 100 million plus for any pitcher ever.

The Sox rebuild was built mainly around pitching. They should use their FA $ to go after position players. They are gonna need a catcher, first baseman, third basemen, and probably a center fielder if they want to be competitive anytime soon.

I was the person who you are referring to and the amount was 2/48 million dollars which would equate to 24 million a year. The point being is that we probably have about 40 million dollars committed to next year which is probably 100 million dollars less than if they were competitive.  I would rather have the White Sox try to use the room to sign higher average annual value but with lower years attached. It does not make me sleep better watching Yolmer Sanchez play third base while Jerry is making an extra 100 million dollars on the year because the White Sox are not investing in the team. Yes, that is alot per season but overall the dollar amount does not come with much long term risk. Donaldson was a 5 WAR player 2017, if he was healthy this year he would be paid in excess of 150 million dollars. He is not so it might be a good opportunity to improve the team.

And if he is healthy for the first half of the year, you could easily flip him for young talent.

The White Sox used a first round pick on a third baseman in the 2017 draft. I think they will just let Yolmer play there every day until Burger is ready.

Also, I don't see the White Sox adding any significant payroll this offseason. Hell, they might even shed payroll by nontendering Avi and trading Abreau and Rondon. It might be time to embrace the tank for another 2 or 3 years.

Footlong is a Cub fan who follows the Sox in a bemused fashion. His manners have become commonplace in our political discourse. Before Internet these people would leave graffiti in public stalls.

You are wrong sir. No love for the Cubbies from me and tagging bathroom stalls is against the law. I called Carla for a good time back in 99 at the Rainbow on Division and Damen. Still waiting for her to call me back...

I would like to see the following:

Sign Donaldson (2 Year-48 million)  to play 3B

Sign McCutchen (2-36 million) to play CF- I know he can't really field the position but hopefully you can move him to RF when in one year.

Let Jordan Guerraro and Stephen pitch in September. I am not saying take the ball every 5th day but it would not hurt for them to get 2 starts in before the end of the year.

I would try to sign somebody like J.A Happ to a (2 year-40 million)

One good thing about having a very low payroll is you can give guys higher AAV than most teams without long term commitments.

I gotta disagree with this plan man. This screams half assing it to me and will most likely only result in the Sox winning 75 games or so the next few years.

This team either needs to break the bank with some impact FA signings spread out over the next few offseasons or they need to trade guys like Rodon, Avi, and Jose and embrace the tank for another 2-3 years until Kopech is back at full strength and all the other prospects are ready to rock.

Shields is a hole in the rotation.  Stacking a rotation with guys like Shields helped to cause this mess and will perpetuate it if Sox management continues to think players like him are the answer.
If the rebuild is on track, and it certainly should be, there is no reason they have to trade Rodon.

The rebuild is most certainly not on track. It is careening and wobbling like a 50 cent carnival ride at the old Kiddieland in Melrose Park.

The Sox will have one hole in the rotation once they buy out Shields and now the idea is to create another hole by trading Rodon? Then spend all of 2019 complaining about how the rotation sucks? Yep, par for the course I guess.

Trading Rodon means you are punting 2019, 2020, and 2021. The goal would be to continue the tank and stockpile top 5 draft picks while guys like Moncada, Anderson, Eloy, Engel, Palka, Gio, and Lopez continue to develop at the MLB level. It would also allow time for top prospects like Cease, Burdi, Robert, Dunning, Collins,Madrigal, Adolpho, and Burger to develop.

Shields could be resigned for 2019. A guy like Derek Holland or Edwin Jackson  could also be signed dirt cheap for a couple years. It would also be a tryout time for guys like Guerrero, Stephens, and Adams.

The rotation won't matter too much as the goal will be to continue to tank until all the prospects are ready in 2022-2023.

I doubt they'll be competing in 2020. The Kopech injury pushes everything back at least one season, if not two. Most likely, they'd be ready in 2020 only if everything went perfectly. It hasn't, to say the least. 2021 or 2022 now. The injuries in 2018 change a lot.

Enough of the excuses. This team was expected to be ready to get after it in 2020.

Maybe Rick Hahn and company are in over their heads and not the right guys for the job?

Those guys were under team control during the majority of their competitive window. Rodon will be under team control for a maximum of two seasons of a window, with the most likely scenario being one season.  If you keep him, he's basically a one or two year rental. Not worth it. Why is this logic so hard for you people? It would be like keeping Jose Quintana on a an 85-95 loss team where he's probably your best player, and there is slim to no hope of competing during his team control. Not trading Rodon by the start of the 2020 season if they continue to stockpile high draft picks, is a fireable offense, IMO.

2020 will be year 4 of the Sox rebuild. The Cubs made it all the way to the NLCS during year 4 of their rebuild. I thought the Sox were trying to follow a similar blueprint?

The Sox will have Rodon under control in 2020 and 2021. These are years that they should be competing. Rodon should be a major anchor of the rotation during those years.

Unless they spend on some stopgaps, not for at least two. It's worth trading Rodon.

Hahn should be shitcanned on the spot if the Sox trade Rodon for "prospects" any time soon.

The Cubs sure didn't trade away Kyle Hendricks nor did the Astros trade away Dallas Kuechel during their rebuilds. I thought we were following their models?

After this news? Yes. Before this week, if I was in RH's chair and the right offer came in for Rodon (2 top 50 guys and a 3rd strong piece), I'd have hated to do it but I'd very likely have made the move. At this point? I see no reasonable way Rodon's next 2 years are useful to the White Sox. We're now waiting on Kopech to recover to full strength (2021) and that Winston-Salem team to arrive (2021). Other guys like Collins will arrive before that, but you have to expect some growing pains. We may not get the right offer this year, especially if both Rodon and DeGrom are on the market, it may take Rodon pitching to the break next year to prove he's healthy, but if the right offer comes in you now have to make that move. It will make you better in 2021 and beyond.

No one is going to give up a Chris Sale type package for Carlos Rodon.

The Sox have Rodon under control for 3 more years after 18. U don't think this team will be competitive at all in the next 3 years?

Absolutely, something I wouldn't be opposed to.

So you are pretty much okay with punting away the 2020 and 2021 seasons? A trade of Rodon for more prospects is pretty much conceding those seasons.

  13. U guys really think this guy has had a good year and shown improvement from last year?

When I look at his stats I see a barely above replacement player who has a lower wRC than heavy hitters like Alen Hanson.

Nothing about this kid screams elite to me. Go watch Atlanta, NY, or the Nats if you want to see some truly elite young talent.

I would have banned Tom Party a long time ago. He's clearly trolling. His whole persona is about incitement. Not my board though.

Go move to Russia or North Korea. They love banning stuff there too.
