This trade seems way better to me than the Santos one

    Same.

Although I am also good with cashing in on one good year of relief, but not completely sold on the return beyond turning one thing into three (plus bonus pool).

Overall, these trades gave me a little pep in my step, and I’ll admit I am a little excited to see what a new front office can do, even if it’s not the one we wanted.

I thought it was reported back when this all came out that Jimmy Rollins was  the one responsible for going over both Ventura and Hahn straight to Kenny to b**** about Drake La Roche.

Didn’t see Rollins or anyone else implicated in the Athletic article, but perhaps this was merely speculation since he was new in camp.

I think it was Rollins, along with Avila and Frazier.

All three were veterans who were new to the team, and apparently did not enjoy the idea of having a child in the clubhouse all day, everyday.

What a weird year. All of that to finish in 4th place, again.

I’m excited for you.  It was so much fun going each year and using it as a way to get the kids more ingrained into the fandom.  I think people forgot the magic of getting to meet players, get autographs, see all the memorabilia, etc. for little kids.  Just a major loss for me and my family, especially when I temporarily lived in Nashville and couldn’t go to games very easily.  We had planned to make an event out of it each year as I did as a kid, but unfortunately Covid hit and the Sox just canceled it.  Super pumped to finally take my boys again next year.

    Thanks, man. Appreciate it.

We took a roadtrip to Charlotte this past summer knowing there’s an opportunity for more interaction with the players before and after games. He was in awe personally handing Oscar Colas and Victor Reyes a ball to sign, getting a baseball thrown to him from a random reliever after a game, and getting some promotional stuff from their staff.

You’re 100% right that’s the kind of stuff that helps turn kids into real fans. It’s definitely not just watching entire 9 inning games, especially during years when the team blows. I had to lie and tell him the Cubs were horrible this past season too lol.

Glad you’ll be back in action as well!

I mean, I’d like to take my sons to SoxFest who want to go to see players and get autographs.  Yelling is actually a second for me (although I’d love to partake) and I’m sure there are many others with young children who feel the same.

Yes, my son has been waiting to go for the last two years. Potentially meeting a player/getting an autograph, getting a souvenir/game ball are some of his favorite parts of going to a game.

He couldn’t believe there’s an actual event where you have that opportunity to meet almost every player and get their autograph. After the last two years have been cancelled, he’s probably starting to think I’m making it all up.

I’m just pumped to finally take him next year. I doubt I’ll do much yelling at his favorite team in front of him lol.

  5. The fact that there were multiple “just getting started” posts highlighting failure leads me to believe this was intentional.

No idea what the motive would be, but there’s no way someone working for an MLB team didn’t understand those stats were poor and weak groundouts to 2B are not good. Even if the person was just an intern.

    Barlow probably makes it.

edit: especially if Santos misses time. Does anyone even know if he’s hurt? I’ve seen like one person here suggest he may be injured and has no value but I haven’t really seen anything myself.

He was shut down the last few weeks of the season due to “elbow inflammation.”

Everyone is assuming he is going to tear his UCL as soon as he starts pitching again this season.

It’s a valid concern/expectation, especially considering we just saw the same story happen with Davis Martin the previous year.

He’s been a focus of mine since the beginning the offseason. I can’t imagine he’s much more than a salary dump for the WS right now but I may be off on that. Not sure how the org feels about him.

Definitely not a salary dump. New pitching Senior Advisor has every intention of unlocking him as a starter this season. Might be a lost cause, but a better option than salary dumping 3mil in a lost season.

Cubs want Bellinger. At least get into negotiations and bid the salary up.

As I stated, I know that realistically this is not going to happen but thinking outside the box (can we do that here without getting stoned?)  an outfield of Bennintendi, Robert and Bellinger would be above average and possibly way above average.  Bellinger still looks like he is in good shape physically, is a good outfielder,  and can produce 15+ home runs. Kind of exactly what the Sox need to move the team toward being competitive and win back some fans.

If Reinsdorf opens up the checkbook for a player, I’d rather it not be Bellinger.

Maybe Getz will be a little more efficient with Reinsdorf’s money compared to Hahn with Grandal, Keuchel, Bennintendi and everyone in between.

Either way, there is zero chance Jer is considering any contract for that type of money right now, or ever.

Colas did make a post insinuating there was frustration about not being promoted, but he never threatened to quit. That was Mercedes.

I’ve been trying to find it too, but it wasn’t a direct statement about quitting like Yermin.

It was an Instagram post showing frustration with a current situation while simultaneously removing all things White Sox from his account.

I probably should have chosen my words more carefully bringing the story up in this thread, but he appeared to be insinuating he was “done” with the White Sox or baseball all together.

But lots of walks and struggling to get through 5 innings isn’t what contenders are looking for.

The other thing is he will be going to a real division with teams that actually have ML offenses.

You are describing Blake Snell who the Yankees just offered a 150mil contract, and will eventually land close to 200mil.

And acting like Cease can’t handle non-AL Central offenses is quite ignorant. If you’ve never really watched him pitch, just say it. But his stuff plays against any MLB offense.

  11. Colas basically threatened to quit because he was still in the minors in 2022. He was then handed the starting RF job out of ST and he was beyond horrible.

I honestly did not expect him to be as bad as he was, and his performance makes me question if he’s a major league player in any capacity.

I would not doubt if 2023 was enough of a mixture of bad/immature behavior and abysmal performance for many in the organization to sour on him almost completely.

I don’t disagree that he needs to work his way back into a starting major league role on this team. As much as I want to disagree with every front office decision they make right now.

Whether it’s the White Sox fault he was so bad and immature in 2023 due to lack of player development is another story. Regardless, this is where we are at right now.
