FS: Catching up with the Kannapolis Backstops - Perez, Skoug, Hickman

Featured Replies

Here's an interesting prospect focus piece - a look at the three catchers on the Kannapolis roster, including quotes from all three (Ken conducted the interviews), video and more. It's unusual for an affiliate to carry three backstops, let alone when none of them are org soldiers. All three of these are players with potential. This is a really good read on some depth prospects, with the hope that perhaps one of them becomes a valuable major leaguer.

Nice write up. The bats just seem like a black hole for each of those prospects, outside of Perez possibly. While offense from a catcher is not necessarily essential, batting below the Mendoza line in A ball is frightening as pitchers in the upper minors would likely eat them alive. I'm hopeful for improvement as catching depth is essential.

It just feels like perez is gonna be one of those dudes that hangs around and ends up as the third catcher that gets play during injuries from ages 26-28.

Certainly seems possible. Very good bat to ball skills, minimal power, defense is coming along pretty well.
