Another huge solar flare

Featured Replies

Is it true that it is harmful to travel on airplanes when there are solar flares?

I have always been curious about how the suns flares/rays affect astronauts. I know people are only supposed to travel across the earths poles once a year, otherwise they recieve too many harmful rays from the sun, roughly equivilant to getting an x-ray without wearing the lead blanket.

But what about the astronauts in the space station who get no protection for months except for a few inches of plastic?

As I read that link, the Beatles' "Here Comes The Sun" keeps popping in my head.
