My top five free agents(that the sox can afford and need):

 

1). Pettitte...he can provide us with the much needed experience down the stretch and also help teach cotts,stewart how to pitch since their styles are similar.

 

2). Luis Castillo...gives us speed,fielding and a left handed bat at the top of our order...if we can't get him i wouldnt mind trying to get alomar back.

 

3). Cameron...maybe their is a possiblity of getting him back..i figure we should get him so he starts makes good plays for us and not against us...once again if we cant get him then i would hope for us to get everett back.

 

4). Hawkins...we need someone to take gordons spot

 

5). tejada... he seems like he would fit this team very well, but i doubt we can afford him. orlando cabrera is my back up choice to him and is in our price range...i hope we have someone besides valentin at ss next season.

 

I think the sox need to fill these spots because a good baseball team is one that is strong up the middle and those are spots which we desperately need to be filled.... Please feel free to give me your top 5 free agents..

We can't afford Pettite, he'll stay with da Yanks, or go to the Astros or O's. Castillo only if Robbie Alomar ain't comin back, but I think he'll be wearing a Tribe or Mets uniform in 2004. Cameron wouldn't want to come back here, he thinks management mistreated him or sumthin. Hawkins will be a Yank and Tejada no way can we afford him. Here r my top 5,

1) Sidney Ponson - We need a #2 or #3 starter to take pressure off Buerhle and Loaiza. 3 year $20 mill deal should be alrite but no more.

2) Chad Fox - Impressed in the postseason, will log up quality innings in da pen.

3) Carl Pavano - Finally got it together in da postseason, but otha teams will be hot on him. Prob get around 4-5mill in my opinion.

4) Scott Spiezio - Guy we should go afta IF Konerko goes and sumthin happens to Thomas and Daubach ain't comin back. A scrapper and quality character guy who'd fit in well with Ozzie's mentality he's trying to bring in.

5) Brian Anderson - Consistent enough to be our #4 starter if he comes in cheap.

 

I really did try to fit Rick White in there as well, it was a very hard choice not to put him in.

Instead of giving you my top five, I'm going to comment on each of yours.

 

1. Pettitte. The Sox won't outbid the Yankees for him. He might sign with Houston at a discount, but not Chicago. Forget Pettitte.

 

2. Castillo. I'd love to have him, but I'm not sure about throwing big bucks at 2nd base.

 

3. Cameron. The Sox would have to drastically overpay him to get him to even think about it.

 

4. Hawkins is not a closer. Failed miserably at that spot with the Twins. If you are reffering to Gordon's intended spot as set up man.. then yes he would work. But again, will have to outbid the Yanks.

 

5. Tejada. Maybe, but I doubt it. Cabrera is more likely, imho.

I'm not buying into Ponsons success last year because once he went to the Giants he was horrible...Fox did do well in the playoffs, but once again I believe he is overrated..Pavano or Anderson would be a nice pickup..I am favoring Anderson b/c I believe he will be cheaper and I also think lefties have many advantages over righties...I think Cameron could be convinced to come here with our management changes and he would help us in the field so much and he will hit much better here than in Safeco...This offseason is going to be determined by the yankees..I think we need a proven starter and reliever, and a quality shortstop....I think we do have a chance at getting a top player b/c sox management said they will spend more money...
