"White Sox could make run at Colon"

Yep The Sporting News says we could make a run at Bartolo, so now we have a major media outlet, confirming we may go after him, not just the rumors, for all of you people who couldn't just go on the rumors and such

"White Sox could make run at Colon"

The Bartolo Colon sweepstakes are still open to bidders, and the White Sox could enter the fray. Their latest Team Report says Chicago is trying to trade for a proven starter to give Mark Buehrle some support in a young rotation. Inexperience and inconsistency are a big concern with Jon Garland, Dan Wright, Jon Rauch and Rocky Biddle

The link goes to the White Sox team report

LHP Arnie Munoz, 20, has dominated in his native Dominican Republic during winter ball, with a 1.55 ERA and 74 strikeouts in 40 2/3 innings. Unless he takes a big step backward, he should win a bullpen job.

ROTATION ANALYSIS: LHP Mark Buehrle is a budding young ace. He's not overpowering, but he already is a master at moving the ball around and keeping hitters off-balance. The team still is trying to swing a trade for Expos RHP Bartolo Colon or another proven starter, and it's easy to see why. RHPs Jon Garland and Dan Wright are the current Nos. 2 and 3 starters, but both still are learning how to be consistent. RHPs Jon Rauch and Rocky Biddle and LHP Josh Stewart are the primary contenders for the final two starting jobs. Rauch and Biddle were impressive in the final month last season, but their inexperience is a big concern. Stewart, 11-7 with a 3.53 ERA at Class AA Birmingham last season, could use another year of seasoning in the minor leagues.

I wonder if this is something that, if it happens, will be announced on 31 January 2003, the first day of SoxFest, just as the Lofton signing was announced last year. That would create a happy vibe and keep the wolves from ripping KW apart. And for the latter, there has to be some move by the 31st... But I expect no announcements of anything until the 31st, so no use holding one's breath now. Thanks for the news, though!

I don't know. Its real hard to plan a trade to the exact date. Plus, if they want him, then get him now, its that simple. No point in standing around waiting and waiting. I don't think his value could get any lower then it currently is.

Maybe JR (Since he's part of the comittee) knows things that we do not and that he'll basically have to be given up for free once a certain date comes and then he'll have KW go in and make the move.

that is a possibility jas.

I still think it is doubtful we will get one of them, but I think the chances are good.

We are really one of the few teams who have no officially backed out, have the money to take his salary, and the players to get him.

we'll have to wait and see. I think something will happen in the next week or so in regards to Colon and/or Vasquez; whether that is us or not is a different story.

I will make hot sweaty preist-choirboy love to KW........ if he gets colon.

I wouldn't be surprised if Munoz gets converted to a SP.

I've been thinking the same thing Cerb. I notice how many innings he's pitched as a reliever and the Sox must be trying to stretch that arm out. Typically relievers don't throw a combined 110 innings or so in one season.

Appreciate the link Cali. But..... The Sporting News is now added to the same list that Gammons is on..... IMHO.

please let us know how it goes -- :D
