Who gives a crap what Cub fans have to say about anything the Sox do. Screw 'em.

And, I'm with Jason on this. Signing Estes to a minor league contract is a no lose proposition. If he stinks it up in ST, cut him or send him to AAA. If he pitches decent, then ............. ah, what are the odds? :D

Yas,

Go outside right now. Put your arms out and flap. You have a better chance of flying than Estes does of meaning jack to any team that signs him.

Just a thought. Stupid, but a thought nonetheless.

I'd imagine that's what a lot of folks would have said this time a year ago if it had been reported that the Sox were fixing to sign a pitcher named Esteban Loaiza who had a lower than .500 W-L record.

If it worked with Loaiza, then there's no reason why it couldn't work with Estes.

Also, please stop with all the juvenile threats about if the Sox do a certain move, then you'll boycott the team. That kind of garbage is getting really old.

Take Loaiza and have his arm surgically repaired to where he loses 10 MPH off his fastball, and then have him pitch the same speed on every pitch. Then, and only then can you compare Loaiza and Estes.

Enough said.

Estes SUCKS. He is going downward in his career. Loaiza is good. He is going upward in his career.

I hope that is very clear, because I don't want to spend the next hour trying to explain to you the very intricate points of pitching and pitchers.

Loaiza - GOOD. Estes - BAD.

Is that simple enough?

Loaiza realized that he needed to improve and continued to work on new pitches. He isn't a stubborn head case who wouldn't accept a bullpen role to help his team. Loaiza is mature, Estes is delusional. He still thinks he's the 19-game winner that SF had. He is not.

Maybe it'll work with Estes, maybe it won't. I have no desire to find out. Let someone else take that gamble. I'd rather see Cotts throw in the 5th spot than that jackass.

And I'm really really sorry if you find my "threat" juvenile - but I guarantee you that it's no threat. I have ZERO interest in watching Shawn Estes pitch for the Sox - I think he's awful and that's all there is to it.

Question:

Were you talking about how great Loaiza is before the 2003 season or did you wait until Loaiza was 5-0 before doing so? Frankly, before 2003 I had never heard of Loaiza before or if I had, I had forgotten about it.

Also, where do you come by this info about Estes refusing to pitch relief or being delusional about his prowess? I've heard allegations like that from Cubs fans but have not seen any evidence to back those accusations up.

When Estes was dropped from the rotation for a brief stretch, the idea was floated that he could do some middle relief or mop-up work. Estes said something to the effect of "I'm a starter" and blew off the idea completely, and Dusty Baylor let Estes hide behind his back by making up some crap about how Estes "wouldn't know how to warm up as a reliever". ( Both of these statements were in the local papers, but that's the only "evidence" I can offer. I don't know either of them personally, and I don't have the time or interest to try to dig up the articles online. )

Sorry, but if you can't figure out how to "warm up as a reliever" ( whatever THAT means ) and try to help the club in some other way if you're not starting, then that doesn't show me much.

And for the record, I didn't have much feeling either way when the Sox picked up Loaiza, but I also hadn't seen him much either. I have seen more of Estes, enough to know I absolutely do not want to see him in a Sox uniform.
