Question.. Please Help

Featured Replies

I've noticed that in November the WhiteSox transfered a lot of players from A, AA up to AAA. In fact their AAA roster is pretty large.

What is the theory behind this and will most of these guys stay in AAA to start the year or end up back at A or AA where they started?

Thanks

Its just what whitesox.com puts up. The rosters on that site are not accurate nor are they right. The only roster moves to pay attention to when it comes to the minors right now are if guys are put on or off the 40 man roster, Rule V pickups and/or losses and if the sox sign anyone to a minor league contract or lose minor league free agents.

The Sox will typically announcer their minor league rosters sometime in March or at least thats what i've been told by a few affiliates the past few days. I'm working on getting pictures of every player for FS (futuresox) :headbang

Actually, Jason those rosters are indeed correct, they are just in essence paper rosters. The Major League Roster is 40. The AAA roster is (I believe 34 players) and so on.

What happens is there is a filtering down process. The players on the AAA roster right now have AAA contracts. That does not necessarily mean they will play at AAA, but how they are classified. Guys from the 40-man roster, plus non-roster invitees are sent down to AAA and guys on a AAA contract are sent to AA (or Class A) and so-on.

In spirit you are correct that the AAA roster you see right now will not accurately reflect Charlotte's roster on opening day, but the roster is in fact correct. It is more an administrative deal.
