Why are people surprised to hear that only 2 % of the US population is Jewish?

We need to believe.

Maybe Moishe did part the Red Sea.

Who the hell knows?

I'll stick with my atheism, TYVM.

Surveys are to be taken with a grain of salt--you can always find ways to make them say whatever it is you want them to.

But if you're wrong, then you'll roast in Hell for eternity, which is a very long time.

For most people, it's pretty simple: hedge your bets and get your ass to Church. Nothing to lose, but everything to gain.

Yeah, because an all-knowing diving agent would never see through that shallow ploy.

the Catholics have it right on this one. Do what you wanna your whole life, but make sure to get that death-bed confession in just before you cash it in. ;)

:o

I will pray for you tonight, Little Jim.

Did I tell you about Count Tolstoi running around practically naked in a pre-death delirium, looking for a priest to confess his sins and thus find God and salvation?

Of course, we're talking about a stricter Eastern Orthodox (Pravoslavny) division circa 100 years ago here, and not Catholicism.

Yep, that's the way to do it.

I do think MG of the 80's was a solid actor.

Don't judge me.

I liked most of Mel's stuff well into the 90s. Braveheart was over the top but pretty powerful. He was decent enough in the Patriot even if the film left me flat. I thought he was a VERY CONVINCING paranoid schizophrenic in Conspiracy Theory, then on the Prime Time interview last night I realized he IS a paranoid schizophrenic...

Liked a lot of the earliest stuff, too. Galipoli, the Bounty, etc. I was in high school when I saw the first Mad Max movie, so what's not to like there? The first (and ONLY teh first) Lethal Weapon made the whole stupid Cop-Buddy flick work on its own level.

Crap, I forgot my favorite film he ever did - The Year of Living Dangerously. Linda Hunt was great in that too.

You beat me to it.

Galipoli, Max, YoLD, first Lethan Weapon... Him and Cruise-- both are personality- driven, with a manic edge to them. Gibson also (used to) add the element of humor and charm, though.

Braveheart was a solid flick. I enjoyed it, but then again I liked Gladiator as well. The directing Oscar, same as Costner and DWW, should have been shared with the ghost team that did most of the work for him.

I know what you mean with the PS. Watch where he is asked if he is an anti-Semite in particular.

And at least he didn't try to distance himself from his kook father.

as far as his dad goes...well..my dad had some views on race and stuff that i dont agree with...i still oved him..and if his views were made public i would never go on record and embarrass him by challenging them...he was my father

so i have no problem with mel not denouncing anything his father said

Fortunately my father is a decent man, so am I am not faced with a hard choice there.

My mother, on the other hand, gets little respect from me for some of the s*** she said and did to me and others when she was younger. Love and support? Yes. Understanding? Maybe. But NOT respect. It has to be earned.

I hope my future children give me s*** if I ever do something they deem morally reprehensible. I probably wouldn't like it (who does?), but I hope they have enough guts and conviction to do the right thing. I'll try my best so that situation doesn't happen, but who really knows....

And Jackass Mel and his evil insano daddy deserve each other.

Wow. This is a few days old, but too good not to tag on here. So what's his deal with abiding by Ex Cathedra proclamations? Is it ok for him to accept anything pre-V2 ande reject anything after? Isn't that kind of rewriting the rules when you only accept Papal infallability when it fits with your personal ideology?

Any way, all non-Catholics are hereby put on notice: Mad Max says you're going to Hell. (And still he has convinced 10k's of multi-denominational Christians to pre-purchase Passion tickets.... "We might be going to hell in a bucjet, but at least we'll enjoy the film, er, ride.")

AP: Mel on hell: Even the missus may miss out on salvation

Actor-director Mel Gibson talks about his new film, "The Passion of the Christ," during a nationwide satellite interview seen Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at North Ridge United Methodist Church in Millbrook, Ala.

February 12, 2004

Mel Gibson has come under fire for being hard on Jews in his film The Passion of the Christ, but apparently, he feels that Protestants are also doomed to damnation. In fact, it looks as if Gibson, a conservative Catholic, believes that his Episcopalian wife could be going to hell.

Gibson, interviewed by the Herald Sun in Australia, was asked if Protestants are denied eternal salvation. "There is no salvation for those outside the (Catholic) church," Gibson replied. "I believe it."

He elaborated: "Put it this way. My wife is a saint. She's a much better person than I am. Honestly. She's, like, Episcopalian, Church of England. She prays, she believes in God, she knows Jesus, she believes in that stuff. And it's just not fair if she doesn't make it; she's better than I am. But that is a pronouncement from the chair. I go with it."

"There is no salvation for those outside the (Catholic) church," Gibson replied. "I believe it."

It begins and ends with those three words.

It begins and ends with those three words.

I believe Mel Gibson just pulled wayyyy ahead in the race to become......."THE DUMBEST PERSON ON THE PLANET"

Oh.. I wouldn't go that far... ;)

Oh.. I wouldn't go that far...  ;)

OK, maybe he's not in the lead, but he's in the race, and that in itself is pretty sad.

I wouldn't call it dumb. I'd say that it's sad that he feels that way.

That (only devout Catholics are getting into the Pearly Gates) was something taught in grammar school to me. The way Brian and I looked at it, if this is true, we most assuredly are going to hell so we are going to have fun getting there so we did the cohabitation before we got engaged thing, lol.

Meh, I don't see how Mel saying that is any different from regular Christians saying only Christians going to heaven--and then saying--well Gandhi was a great person, but he's damned. I agree that exclusivist ideology is sad--be it just for Catholics or for just one religion.

Fortunately my father is a decent man, so am I am not faced with a hard choice there.

thats kinda funny..because your last sentence could be considered "morally reprehensible by some"

Baggio, please read up on Mel's father and his views. I've said enough about that duche.

As for the brave heart himself....raging asshole, his wife suffered for 3 women. Just calling a spade a spade. No biggie. Even he admits it.

Try again.
