Sox Demote Four More

In a continuing series of moves to whittle down the roster by Opening Day, the Sox sent down four of the pitchers on their staff. Pitchers Felix Diaz and Jon Rauch were both optioned to Charlotte while lefty Vic Darensbourg and righty Jose Santiago were re-assigned to minor league camp. This leaves the Sox with 34 players in camp.

Rauch was expected to contend for the last spot in the rotation, but he is now likely their first or second pitching option in the minors along with Neal Cotts. While Rauch is a starting pitcher, it is not out of the question to see him used out of the pen if he is called up, as he, Cotts, Jason Grilli and Dan Wright are all contenders for the fifth spot. Darensbourg and Santiago were non-roster invitees for the Sox this season, and it is possible that they could be dealt with the over abundance of pitchers in Sox minor league camp.

Well on the bright side, Charlotte should have a great pitching staff this year.

It should be a very good rotation but the pen is still suspect. The pen problems pale in comparison to the infield which may be the worse in AAA, expect alot of unearned runs and if Reed and Joe B. aren't hitting.............
