Sox Catchers

Featured Replies

I think Alomar and Oliva should split time, Paul should be traded, If you can get a team to take him. Sox should not carry 3 catchers. B.Daubach should make team instead of 3rd catcher.

try waivers first to send him down to AAA, should he fail to clear, then trade - I wouldn't mind having JP around if/when Alomar goes on the DL, but when Alomar is not, Olivo and Alomar are the two catchers we need.

As long as Josh isn't on the roster come opening day i'm happy.

I agree with you guys....... I don't think 3 catchers will make the opening day roster.

I think JP will clear waivers but you never know. I'd say JP's days as a Sox catcher are numbered barring injury or a terrible ST by Olivo.

I think you will see Olivo catching 4 to 5 days a week and Alomar the other 2 or 3.

there is a good chance sandy could end up on the DL before ST ends...thus making this arguement mute...olivo and paul might end up our catcher...god save us all

Alomar and Olivo are basically guaranteed roster spots out of ST, assuming they are healthy....if Alomar goes down, then Jamie Burke and Josh Paul will battle it out for the backup spot(along with the other one we signed)....I hope that Alomar can atleast make it through May....that would be real good....because by then Olivo should have settled into his role as starting catcher and he should be hitting well....and Alomar will only have to catch 1-2 games a week.

I'd say Paul is going to have to clear waivers....and if someone wants him, say, the Padres....we trade Paul to them for some A prospect who could be decent....that'd be my plan all the way through it.
