Great Story on Cooper.....

Featured Replies

thanks for the link, that is good news to read, may it all come true!

Ya, that was an awesome read. I really like Cooper and I truly believe we have one of the best pitching coaches in the entire major leagues. Thank goodness the Sox finally gave Nardi the boot.

I expect Cooper to do an excellent job developing our young pitchers and helping Colon and the vets as well. I wonder what would of happen to Kip had Cooper been the pitching coach then.

That's a good point about Kip and I have to agree with you on what you say about Cooper. The last thing our young ptichers needed was someone ragging on them when they pitch bad like Nardi did. Cooper is much more laid back and is teaching the right things like don't be afriad to pitch inside. The perfomances of our pitchers since July 22 shows his impact already especially on Garland.

Garland ERA on July 22= 5.12

Garland ERA in 2002= 4.58

Wright was also 9-4 after the break....something tells me Coop has something to do with that....like maybe teaching him how to keep the team in the game and giving 5-7 strong innings even when you don't have your best stuff. If you can keep the team in the game, you can win every single one of them.

PITCHER BEFORE AFTER

Mark Buehrle 3.63 3.49

Jon Garland 5.46 3.16

Gary Glover 4.62 5.89

Damaso Marte 3.38 1.74

Jon Rauch-* 9.72 2.25

Dan Wright 5.53 4.62

*- Rauch made just two starts after the Sox hired Cooper.

:o that to me is just WOW WOW WOW :headbang

I also wonder what would of happen had Wells not get drilled up the middle a couple times that year. He was awesome when throwing the ball inside, then like 2 striaght games he got drilled with line shots back up the middle and after that he seemed afraid. He was pitching really good as a starter at that point and pitched really good out of the pen. Then we dealt him as I thought he was developing.

But man, Nardi was a jackass. I love how Cooper preaches to his pitchers to attack them. He knows they all got great stuff and he's basically raising there confidence levels by saying just go right at him, you can get them out. He doesn't doubt them one bit like Nardi did, who would just rip on his pitchers, which isn't productive at all.

does anyone got a pic of cooper? i've never actually seen him

Lou Pinella didn't call Nardi Contreras "the worst pitching coach" for nothing. And I saw one of Rauch's two starts after Cooper's hiring in 2002..... one was against the Twins. He dominated. If he is our number 5 starter and he pitches like he did in his last two starts late in 2002, this team (barring injury) is gonna be in business.

ive always liked coop.. and i really like champion (who will most likely one day take coops place...) the best thing is coops grown up with most of these young guys we have up here now.. so he can deal with them on a better individual basis....and most likely get better results out of them in the long run...........why the hell do we still keep useless nardi on the payroll?? as if he would know raw talent if it jumped up and smacked him upside the head??? yeah right.............nardi is the express lane to the surgery table......

Nardi is Manuel's buddy that is the only reason he was hired.

oh so when jerry goes then nardi will go with him huh??? it cant come soon enough i hope they are holding kw's hands on the way out as well......lol
