White Sox Draft Question

Featured Replies

Q: Richard Smiley from Chicago, IL asks:

John -- Thanks for doing this chat! The White Sox have 6 of the first 70 picks in the upcoming draft ... any idea of how they are planning to use those picks?

A: John Manuel: Most clubs decide to overdraft a few players in those situations, where they have a "draft bonanza" . . . the White Sox could defray some costs with a college senior or two in that mix. I expect them to continue to blend, blend, blend, as Jim Callis would say, and take some college and high school picks. This draft is short on hitters so they'll probably go more for arms.

I know the teams all have a separate budget for drafting. I just wonder how much the Sox have allocated toward draftee contracts.
