CWSGuy406
Wow - Calgary takes one s***ty penalty, four minutes left in the game, and one of the Calgary players takes a five minute boarding misconduct, and Tampa Bay is up 1-0. Talk about action, end to end, just an awesome game. Less than 2 left in the game.
CWSGuy406
Ville Niemenen took the penalty - a former Hawk screws up royally. Wow - Khabibulan makes a HUGE glove save shorthanded, he was screened, the puck was going in. Damn, what a save....
kapkomet
This is turning out to be a great series. Too bad the ratings don't follow.
Spiff
What a bulls*** game. Flames were robbed. That 2 minute 5 on 3 was total crap, the Commodore penalty I could see but the one with Clarke should have been a double minor or nothing. :fyou Fraser
CWSGuy406
I really don't mind who wins, actually. I wanted to see a good game, and I saw a great one. I cannot express in words how excellent Khabibulan was, and that glove save at the end was just brilliant. Sorry if it seems like I'm rubbing it or anything like that, Spiff, I like both teams (Calgary because they beat Detroit, and because I like Iginla, and Tampa because I like the way they play). Ville Niemenen sure is an agitator, and a lot of times he plays pretty well, but man, what a stupid penalty. Sure, Lecavalier (sp?) (I think he was the one hit) might have dove a little bit, but Ville shouldn't have put it in the referee's hands. This series is so back and forth. Both teams are capable of winning on the road, and at home. I think it's going to go to seven. I hope it goes to seven, I might even tape it, fact being it might be the last of hockey we see in a year or so.
Spiff
No you're not really rubbing it in. It was a decent game. But it was basically given to the Ning right there with the 5 on 3. The first goal in this series is huge, it allows the team who scores to control the tempo. Niemmenan's penalty was stupid at the time he did it. I don't know if I disagree with the call they made there, but the Clarke one just fired me up. The Flames actually play better on the road though, and this will be the fourth time they've gone on the road for a Game 5 tied 2-2. They won the first three. I would expect some retaliation from the Ning for Ville's hit also. It should be interesting.

That will be called every single time. You can't put your hands to a guy's head
Queen Prawn
The 5 minute major was warranted. I was shaking my head in disbelief when which ever Sutter it is that coaches Calgary was saying that penalty in the end shouldn't have been a 5 minute penalty. Dude needs to cut the crap and talk to his player instead of whining to the press. That's only thing about hockey coaches that pisses me off to no end; their guy (no matter how much blood they draw) did no wrong.
southsider2k5
Andre Roy will be settling the score. You can bet right now as we speak Roy is obsessing about how to kill the guy.

The coach better slap some sense into him in that case. No need to get TB into a hole early in the game (wait until the end when the outcome is obvious). They've been looking like they are running on fumes in last game or two.

Sense is what kept Andre out of the NHL for years. It isn't something he has a whole lot of. I'd almost be willing to bet that Roy tries to decapatate the guy. IlliniKrush
They will wait til the end of the game. There's been a boatloads of scrums at the end of games this playoffs, more than i can ever recall seeing. Roy won't take on Niemenen most likely anyway, it will be Ference/Simon

The funny part was when I finally saw what the guy looks like and he doesn't look all that threatening until you hear about his rep lol. He really doesn't look like he is 6'3 and about 221 lbs. IlliniKrush
The Vinny/Iginla fight was the best i've seen in years, not because of the actual punches, but just because of the stage, the people involved, the time, and the symbolism it provided for the series. If you meet him in person, outside of his uni, he is every bit of 6'3" 220. He is also one of the very few hockey goons that I have ever met, that is as insane off of the ice, as he is on it. kapkomet
The funniest part of game 2 (the aforementioned Roy taking someone's head off game) was at the end when he was on the ice for police duty, the linesmen skated to him when the clock had reached :00. Andre, trying like hell to get around the linesman, reaches around and undoes his tie down... he was ready to whoop someone's ass but good. I was cracking up, and saying to myself, YEP, that's the Andre we all know and love. Seriously, though, Andre will NOT go after Niemenen. In fact, Andre won't go after anyone. Torterella has done a great job letting Andre be Andre in this series, and Andre will get his licks in fair and square by checking someone into oblivion LEGALLY. Niemenen used terrible judgement in a crutial time in the game in game 4. Period. Two minute, five minute penalty, it doesn't matter, that was plain freakin' stupid. Nothing else needs to be said. Since it was called 5, there will be no retribution.
kapkomet
Also, Vinny/Iginla was WHY Tampa lost that game. Think about it. Vinny was about as effective as an ant the rest of the game after the fight. That's Jerome's game, not Vinny's. And Vinny played right into it, and into Calgary's hands, which is exactly why Tampa lost game 3 - they got away from their game and sucked into Calgary's game. IlliniKrush
It's neither of their games to a degree. The fight should have gotten more of a response out of vinny's teammates than it did. The fight wasn't really for himself. But yeah, the two teams play different styles for the most part, but tampa is playing more physical than they have been. Before the trade deadline, I would have agreed with you, at least to an extent, about that side of the game not being Calgary's. One of the things they knew they needed to do was get tougher for the playoffs. Chris Simon has absolutely rocked this playoff year, and Andrew Ference has stepped up his physical game. I won't even get into Oliwa. They have a lot more brawn then folks give them credit for, and the physical play has allowed them to knock around the "scoring teams" of Vancouver, Detroit, and San Jose. Spiff
Fighting is definitely part of Iggy's game. He fought Ohlund in the Vancouver series, he kicked Hatcher's ass in the Detroit series, and he went after Stuart against San Jose. He's not afraid to throw down. If Roy tries anything in game five he'll have Oliwa or Simon all over him.

I was talking about Iggy and Lecavalier, not the teams...i should have been more clear. And Iggy has just made that part of his game, only cuz it's the playoffs, i believe. I don't think he's going to do this all the time now, just because if nothing else, him off the ice for 5+ minutes a fight isn't ideal. One of the better fights all of last season was Billy Guerin and Jerome Iginla, Center Ice, downtown Dallas, for the main event. That was a kick ass fight last year (02-03). He's got a lot of piss and vinegar in his game. Always has. Now, he's becoming more of a scorer, and now that bad-boy Simon is there on his line (at times), he doesn't have to throw down as much. Not that Oliwa is/was a sissy, but Simon is a known goon.
