He was replaced by Chuck Tanner. Aparicio was one of the the few bright spots, hitting .313(Forth Best in the league) and breaking Luke Appling's record of 2,219 games at Shortstop. With Gary Peters traded to Boston, Joel Horlen (6-16) and Tommy John (12-17) struggled despite help from Jerry Janeski (10-17) and reliever Wibur Wood (9-13) with 21 saves. Off the field, the arrival of the brewers in Milwaukee cut off avenue of attendance. With all games in Comiskey Park the gates fell to 495, 355, the lowest for the team since 1942. Carlso May made a remarkable comeback from a freak accident during a tour of marine resere duty in 1969, partially destroying his hand. May Batted .285 with 12 homers and 68 RBI's
