Munoz and an acquired starter

Featured Replies

Let's pretend that Munoz gets the start against the Expos and pitches well and keeps pitching well out of the fifth spot.

Also on Saturday, KW announces he has made a trade for an established starter (Garcia, Sheets, Hernandez, whoever).

Do we keep the big four and move Munoz back down to AA or AAA? Do we move Scho or Garland back to the pen? Does that mean we have to remove somebody from the pen to AAA or waivers?

It sure would be a nice problem to have!

Munoz likely goes to the pen. Another nasty lefty is a good thing to have.

One of the other call-ups would be sent back down. (Dransfeldt, Burke)

The 40 man roster wouldn't have to be messed with because I think there are only 39 actually listed on the roster right now. And we would likely lose a roster player(or two) in a trade anyways.

Yeah, I think that's probably what would happen.

It's sort of interesting that the Sox have not announced their starter for Saturday (or if they have, it's been off the radar and I've missed it).

They haven't announced because they don't have too. They never actually announced last week either, and becasue of a thursday night rainout, they didn't have to use the 5th spot. There's nothing for the sox to gain by announcing the TBA early.

The same could happen tonight. It rains a lot in miami. The could feasably be another rainout, and a 5th isn't needed for almiost another week.

Does Burke have to clear waivers if he goes back down?

Ok. I thought there was a lot of certainty that it would be Munoz so long as no one was acquired during the week, and that information had come from the Sox organization.

You really think the Sox would move Jon Garland into the bullpen??

Munoz would be placed in the pen because he obviously is less establsihed, plus, if he did pitch well, it was agaisnt the Expos, so its not saying that much.

Then I think like Cheat said Drasfeld or Burke would go down, probably Kelly.

There's no way Garland goes back to the pen. I dont even see Shoe going back either. We get another starter and Munoz is going back to the pen or back downstairs.

It will be. That's coming from me! ;-)

Munoz will not stay in the rotation becuase he has a good start against the expos. Even if he has a few good starts, i dont think they will make room for munoz in the rotation, should they acquire another starter just because of the fact that munoz is a rookie.

All we should expect from Munoz is that he does a decent job until we get another quality starter. He'll get his feet wet, go back down with some confidence and take his shot next year.

Another thing to think about--if Munoz does pitch well as a SP, he could make Cotts expendable. Munoz could take over Cotts' role, that lately Cotts hasn't done well in.

No way would a veteran be moved out of his role, either in the pen or the rotation. Only a rookie like Cotts.

Hopefully our pen can turn it around. Has Cotts pitched well in any outing since his "start" against the Twins?

His last two outings have been marred by Koch and Jackson.

He wasn't allowed to finish his inning, and 3 ER have now been charged to neal beacuse guys behind him couldn't get one guy out.

They need to get Cotts back into the regular bullpen rotation. He's a quality young pitcher that is not going to develop if he doesn't pitch.

He started the season lights out. Hopefully he can return to form...
