Sandy has to start swinging if he wants to....

I have no problems with Sandy. His average is in the positive side (.278) but he needs to get a little more RBI’s when there’s RISP. So far he has 11 RBI’s and just 1 HR. When was the last time we saw him hit one out of the ballpark? Opening Day in Kansas?

We look at last year and Sandy had 194 at bats. He scored 22 runs, had 52 hits, 5 HR, and 26 RBI (which is what Olivo has at the moment). If this guy can get at least 30-40 RBI’s this year, than the catcher will do okay. Though I’d like for him to hit some HR’s ;)

So far this season:

97 at bats, 13 runs, 27 hits, 1 HR, and 11 RBI’s.

The more offense we have in our starting lineup, the more damage the Sox will do.

Anyone think Sandy should try to improve or is he doing all right at the moment? :huh

We don't expect much offense out of our catchers, hence them batting 9th. As long as we got a guy back there that can keep a reasonable about of fear in the minds of baserunners and somebody who can occasionally make a clutch hit (Jaime Burke), I think that's all you need out of our catcher.

Well, given that the Sox offense as a whole hits lefties very well, here's one area where Sandy is doing just fine:

BA vs. RHP:

Olivo -- .198

Alomar -- .291

Of course he should try to improve. That kinda goes without saying. Hell, every guy on this team should try to improve.

All I want out of Sandy is for him to manage this pitching staff effectively. Even if he is a blackhole as a hitter, we still have an incredible line up, and that shouldn't be his worry right now.

Veteran presence, handles the pitchers well. It will be interesting how everything gets divided up. Sandy will keep Mark and probably pick up Freddy. Jaime takes E-Lo and Garland, and the #5 is up in the air depending if we keep 3 catchers on the 25 man. If Freddy pitches Thursday that would give Sandy an every other day rotation.

If Alomar/Burke/Davis can platoon at Catcher and be successful, I'd be way satisfied! Alomar will most likely start when E-Lo, Mark, the 5th starter, and Jon pitch. Possibly Davis with Freddy and Burke whenever Ozzie fits him in.
