Alderman Wants Wrigley Bus For Processing Drunk Fans

POSTED: 7:33 am CDT July 14, 2004

CHICAGO -- The alderman representing the neighborhood around Wrigley Field has demanded that police crack down on drunk and rowdy fans by holding court hearings on a bus parked outside the stadium.

Alderman Tom Tunney said Tuesday that he's exploring the possibility of using the bus to detain fans arrested for public drinking or urination. He says the bus could be used for hearings or to transport the fans to the police station.

Chicago Police spokesman David Bayless says the department is going to take a look at the bus proposal to see if the idea is feasible.

Community leaders have been demanding zero-tolerance against drunk and disorderly fans since May Sixth. An altercation that day between a motorist and a pedestrian outside Wrigley killed 26-year-old Frankie Hernandez.
