To which team is the following snippet from a column refering?

Well, it's not the Sox. It's that team on the north side. This was in Paul Ledewski's column in the Daily Southtown.

 

There are few more interesting opinions expressed in this column. Even though it's about the Cubs, the are a few Sox references. Enjoy.

Sad part is, the Cubs and Sox play a very similar style of ball, too reliant on power and not enough speed and situational play.

I am not kidding. If the Cubs had LaTroy setting up, and Shingo closing

 

2004 NL Wild Card= Cubs.

 

Shingo = 18/19 saves 94.7%

LaTroy = 24/33 saves 72.7%

 

Turn 3 of those 9 BS's to saves and the season is over for Houston and San Fransico.

Hawkins is a very good setup guy, but not a closer. I called that blown save yesterday before he threw his first warmup pitch. It seemed too easy.

Deadly setup guy, I hated him while he was in Minnesota, couldnt hit him to save our lives.

 

I dont think the cubs are too reliant on power, its just that their hitters cant situationally hit. Because everyime a cub hits a fly ball, the whole crowd goes crazy, even the announcers "he really smashed that one into center field, back back, and into the fielders glove in shallow center." It makes them want to hit those types of shots. Also, there isnt a much worse fielding team than the cubs have been over the past few years. Sosa and Alou are non-existant in the outfield, and patterson takes horrible routes to the ball.
