People like Guthrie, Peter Paul Mary, The Kingston Trio Etc?

Was going to see what everyones favorite peace/make you think type songs?

People like Dylan, etc.

We always talk about harder rock, punk, etc, so I figured I'd throw out something different. Songs that you don't do this to :headbang

And speaking of which I just got, the early contender in my mind, for album of the year, Devin Townsend Band's "Accelerated Evolution" Damn is it amazing...

Phil Ochs > Dylan

unpopular opinion but as far as protest songs Ochs is the man

Cops of the World, Rivers of the Blood, Is There Anybody Here, I Aint Marchin Anymore, the list just goes on.

wish i had been alive to see him live :(

Fish Song is another classic.

I like Dylan a whole lot. I'm really like "blowing in the wind" by Peter Paul and Mary.

I listen to music to avoid thought, but I have some Dylan, I have some Peter Gabriel, I have some Neil Young, the Boss ect. the old stuff is good for taking a nap or eating food to and stuff.

Peter, Paul & Mary put on a heck of show and overall probably have the widest range of best music - an essential part of life -

Kingston Trio ouevre is less than PP&M but were very good and fun -

Woody Guthrie is one of the saints -

Dylan ceased being folk a long time ago - certainly a rock legend - the best Dylan stuff was covered by everyone, and PP&M do the best cover of Blowin in the Wind -

the Weavers were legendary - Phil Ochs certanly has has place in the ones who should be remembered -

but I have seen PP&M in concert and their music is so mcuh a part of the memory ill always rank at the top there for me

Judy Collins and Joan Baez are also very much worth listening to and early Joni Mitchell although she like Dylan left folk a long time ago

I wouldn't call it folk, but you'd have to include Crosby Stills Nash & Young in the catagory of great protest music.
