jasonxctf
discuss amongst yourselves... My first reaction to it was: "F*$@ you and your f*%!#@&% moral values!" My second reaction was: Since when are liberal values immoral? If you take the central issues that liberals fight for—a clean environment, fair wages for working people, expanded civil rights, the rights of homosexual adults to copulate freely—these are ultimately American values. Yes, we liberals sometimes think we know better than you do—but, unlike the president, we don't make it the central pillar of our campaign. My third reaction was: What good are "moral values" anyway? The five states with the highest divorce rates in the country are Nevada, Arkansas, Idaho, Florida and Alabama—all of them red! And the two lowest? The bluest of the blue: the District of Columbia and Massachusetts (with heathen New York and Connecticut closely behind)! My fourth reaction was: If abortion is such a big issue to these moral value folks, why don't they support gay marriages—the only abortion-free relationships? My fifth and final reaction was: How can these Red States people cite moral values, yet ignore the immorality of a war that has caused the death of tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of people? If anyone should be beating the war drum, it should be we here in immoral New York, which has been—and will always be—the terrorists' favorite target. We don't go a day without reliving the horror of September 11—not the abstract, "Wow, that was horrible" horror that the rest of the country (besides Washington D.C.) lives with, but the genuine horror of smelling burnt flesh and watching people jump out of 100th-story windows of the now-gone Twin Towers—yet most of us voted against the president who went to war in our names. Queen Prawn
What's the article?
AngelasDaddy0427
What's the article? I'm wondering the same thing. I think all of those statements are true though. People are way too worried about what other people may or may not be doing in their own bedrooms to care about kids being shipped off to die overseas. Then again i've also lost trust in this goverment a long time ago. :finger

For your first reaction: great! if that's your opinion, well, so be it. More power to ya! For your second reaction: Who said that liberal values were IMMORAL? Are you saying that conservatives are for a dirty environment? What new and expanded civil rights would you like to bestow upon the populace? For your third reaction: while DC may have the lowest divorce rate, I would wager that it also has the highest rate of single parent households. It's hard to get a divorce when you don't get married to begin with. For your fourth reaction: That's like saying which would you prefer, to lose your left arm or right leg? If both choices are bad to you, it is a lose-lose situation. (Personally, I couldn't care less what people do in their bedroom) For your fifth reaction: Those of you who 'voted against the President who went to war in our names' would have voted against him even if the war never happened. You are fooling yourself if you think otherwise. Plus, your profile says 'St.Charles, IL', so who is this 'us' you are referring to? Or did you just cut and paste this from someone else's article? This sounds just like a rant I heard on air-america today. As for the imorrality of the war, what about all the people NOT killed by the war. You know, the ones that would have been in the mass graves that were uncovered. I am not saying the was was a GOOD thing, but war in and of itself, is not immoral. LowerCaseRepublican
I am not saying the was was a GOOD thing, but war in and of itself, is not immoral. Correct -- much of the venom from people that know their ass from a hole in the ground like the anti-war right and some leftists has been that the buildup to this war was so poor and proved that it was not in our interests to do. That's why there is most of the opposition to the war -- not because anti-war people didn't want to alleviate what was going on Iraq but because the groundwork for the war was based on so much BS and was quite antithetical to Bush in 2000 saying that he would not use soldiers for nation building, etc.
jasonxctf
my apologies.. I didnt write the article. It was an excerpt from an MSNBC.com article. The article itself was probably 3 pages long, so I just took out the meat and potatoes of the guy's arguement. The thing that struck me as odd was the whole marriage thing. I found that interesting.
