The Iraqi Islamic Party wields significant influence over the country's Sunni community and its withdrawal from the government will likely be a blow to Interim Prime Minister Ayad Allawi.
November 10, 200421 yr There has also, oddly enough, been widespread protest from Shiite Muslim parties as well over the offensive. Politically, the situation in Iraq is tenuous at best for the Interim Government. The elections are scheduled 10 days after Martial law expires and some of the more major parties look to be sitting this election out. That's a little scary.
November 10, 200421 yr No surprise there. It was either leave vast areas of the country lawless, or piss off the Sunni's. Either way there was going to be problems.
