December 5, 200421 yr Times Link Bush Pressuring G.O.P. to Approve Intelligence Bill By PHILIP SHENON President Bush sought to stem a near-rebellion by members of his own party in Congress yesterday by describing a sweeping intelligence-overhaul bill they oppose as an effort "to do everything necessary to confront and defeat the terrorist threat" and calling for its passage during a brief Congressional session this week. The president's remarks in his weekly radio address came a day after a powerful Senate Republican, John W. Warner of Virginia, chairman of the Armed Services Committee, expressed doubts about the bill, which would enact the major recommendations of the Sept. 11 commission and create a cabinet-level director of national intelligence. Mr. Warner, the first member of the Senate from either party to raise such concerns publicly since the final bill was hammered out last month, said he wanted to resolve issues in the legislation that "may impact the time-tested chain of command" within the Defense Department. His comments echo those of a group of House Republicans who blocked a vote on the bill last month. Geez, form a conga line behind the President and let's dance! major landslide I wouldn't word it that way..Bush didn't win in a major landslide..Over 56 mill did vote against him..not a mandate in my opinion..

With all the heavy spinning the GOP put into the election results, I figured we all bought into it by now. Gash, please report for your programming It's times like these I am glad we have so many checks and balances to protect our freedoms. I am certain if the government goes overboard in vilating our freedoms and rights, the courts wiull step in and rectify. As much as I've lost respect, and been of the opposite opinion on several of their cases, of the ACLU, I know they will challenge the government anytime they try and limited our constitutional rights.
December 6, 200421 yr Author Sometimes, sarcasm is so obvious that green type is not needed. Too bad the GOP Radio Network cannot speak in green I do believe, as victor, Bush should have some claim to pushing ahead his agenda. It worries me when I read his own party is concerned about some provisions. But then again, those party members were there before Bush and hope to be there long after Bush, and have a much different view of the political world.
