Jermaine Dye

MoS-

I agree with you 100%. But i'd rather overpay for something other than an old broken down RF on the downside of his career.

I wouldnt exactly call Jermaine Dye old and broken down, but other than him who else out there is a better option that we can realistically sign?

23 HR's and 80+ RBI's... factor him into the Cell and thats gonna be pretty solid production from him, and hes what 30? Thats not too bad IMO

Hidalgo as well would be a good fit

I just dont see too many REALISTIC options for us

Trade.

Yeah but were talkin bout signings, thats what I meant

I like Dye personally and would be more interested in spending real money on him than a one-year wonder like Jaret Wright. I'd prefer Edgar Reneria though and I believe shortstop is the kind of position you should be willing to overpay for if you can get a guy like Renteria.

So, if KW thinks he has a shot at Renteria I'd prefer to see him make a run at him first and then fill the RF need.

Whats funny to me though is that if Dye signs with someone else, alot of the same people who are criticizing KW for being interested in Dye will turn around and criticize KW for not signing Dye.

If you don't believe me, do some Jaret Wright research on this site.

Dye really hasn't been an above average RF since 1999-2000. Looking at the past 3-4 seasons (throwing out his horrible injury plagued one), he's about a .330 OBP, .460 SLG type of hitter. OK for a stop-gap, but not someone to commit to for 3 years, IMO.

You are correct on Dye's performance over the last three years. My opinion is based upon him being undervalued do to that. Dye could be a monster at the Cell if he can stay healthy. It's a risk but one worth taking up to a point (financially speaking.)

Another player that interests me is Jeremy Burnitz. He was fantastic for the Rox last year and they just officially let him go yesterday. Burnitz isn't the outfielder that Dye is but health isn't an issue, Burnitz is left-handed, and I think he'd be cheaper than Dye.

people say burnitz's stats are padded by coors. but our park is almost as bad.

he'll be 36. i'd take him for one year.

There's no doubt they'll get someone, and if there's good news in this whole scenario it's this ... there are a lot of guys out there.

My big concern with both Dye and Burnitz is they strike out a lot. I haven't checked Hidalgo's stats but just from memory I don't recall him being quite the K machine like Burnitz or even Dye.

Edit: Hidalgo does his share of striking out too.

Valid points. What are their double play numbers though? I'm frankly more concerned about those numbers than Ks.

You know what, if were gonna overpay we might as well go for JD Drew.. a young solid LH bat with a very high OBP and walks a TON.. 112 UNintentional walks IIRC

He would easily replace Maggs production, maybe even be better at the Cell, and would be 4-5 Million less

5 years 9-10 Million per...

JD Drew would be fantastic.

But, alas, JD is a Boras client. :crying

Yeah hes a Boras client, but the money hes trying to make isnt exactly outrageous..

JD Drew last season was healthy all year, and put up very similar numbers to Maggs..

His OBP is .400+ he can hit HR's, he hits for AVG (.300+), he can play defense, he is left handed.. The guy is EVERYTHING we need..

5 yrs 50 million wouldnt bother me one bit for a guy that would replace Maggs, maybe even be better, and come at a cheaper price

Drew would be nice, but peek inside the White Sox braintrust for a minute.

They have Brian Anderson, whom they feel will be ready in 2006 at CF. That allows them to slide Rowand over to RF.

They have Ryan Sweeney, who's coming fast. By all accounts, he could be ready for RF duty by 2007. 2007, coinciding when Carlos Lee will be a FA and they've had enough time to see if Rowand maintains or even improves his play from last season.

Just a guess on my part, but I think they're looking for a good stop gap option for RF, seeing as Right Field Plan A (Joe Borchard) didn't work out.

Great post Jim.

I have to agree with everything you said. This dates back to last season's re-aquisiton of Jurassic as well. I think wanted to snag Jurassic knowning full well that he had a team option for 05'. Now, Kenny knows he has at least a "serviceable" right fielder untill Anderson is ready to make the jump.

Let's see if he goes after Dye/Hidalgo, or stands pat with Jurassic/Escobar. Should be interesting.

I Agree with what you said too.. but just remember, if we sign JD Drew that could lead to Anderson being packaged to get Hudson

You never know whats gonna happen

JD Drew and Tim Hudson

or

Brian Anderson

Many things can get worked out in different ways, but I understand what your saying about this

In order to afford both Drew and Hudson, it wouldn't mean Anderson being dealt. It would mean Lee. [which I could live with in the right deal]

You're 100% right.

I really think there'll be some interesting twists and turns for the next 8-9 weeks. Not just for the White Sox, but for several teams.

Good example is this Henry Blanco thing w/ the Cubs. I doubt there were many people who saw that coming, I sure didn't.

Talk about an unwarranted personal attack.

YASNY, including the reference of losing Dye is simply a observation of past FA's (Wright/Vizquel) signing with other clubs following reports both were close to signing with the White sox,

Mods, take note I'm attempting to resolve this issue in a civil manner.  No need to close this thread. Obvioulsy one of us can hold our temper.

You may strongly hold your beliefs in regards to Williams inactivity this offseason, but I do as well.  If you feel burdoned with reading my posts bashing Williams; avoid them.  Because I'll assure you of one thing: until a move is created to improve this ballclub, the complaining will only continue.

That is so sweet, and true. Unless KW starts to make any moves that help this team, IMO he might need to leave b4 the end of the year.
