Rosenthal: 4th team in RJ Trade Now

Featured Replies

we better be the fourth team. after this clement bulls***, we damn well better get vazquez.

According to MLB.com, a deal is close to completion between the original three clubs (LA, AZ,NY). Appears one less opportunity is available for Willaims to upgrade the rotation.

The Times said the transaction includes 10 players. In the deal, as it is presently constructed, Johnson and a minor leaguer will be traded to the Dodgers and then sent on to the Yankees, along with another player, perhaps Japanese left-hander Kazuhisa Ishii. The Yankees will ship Vazquez to the Dodgers along with two minor leaguers -- catcher Dioner Navarro and third baseman Eric Duncan. From the Dodgers, the Diamondbacks will get Green and right-handed pitchers Brad Penny and Yhency Brazoban.

Blockbuster deal gains Momentum

I count 9 players in this deal.

The fourth team in the Randy Johnson deal could be the White Sox. They'd get Javier Vazquez from the Dodgers for some combination or Paul Konerko, Damaso Marte and Jon Garland.

Or maybe other players. We don't think this makes any more sense for the Dodgers. Getting Marte would make up for losing Yhency Brazoban, but Konerko isn't enough of an upgrade over Hee Seop Choi to be worthy of the extra $8 million in salary and Garland is barely worth the $3.5 million he's getting paid, although we're sure he'd put up solid numbers in Los Angeles. Maybe Paul DePodesta will make things work out in the end, but we don't like what we're hearing so far. Dec. 18 - 4:44 am et
