Shortstop Jose Valentin is not expected to start Wednesday, but it has nothing to do with his lackluster defense in the season opener.

Manuel said he plans to start Tony Graffanino against left-hander Jeremy Affeldt. Valentin, a switch-hitter, batted just .152 from the right side last season. Graffanino hit .261 against lefties last year.

"When they throw a lefty, we'll probably play Graffanino at short," Manuel said. "I've already talked to Jose about that, so that's not an issue or problem."

I thought Jose spent most of the Winter League's working on his righty hitting? Didn't last year, when we actually let him hit righty, hit a granny against Tejas? I believe he hit one from each side of the plate...

Isn't his split pretty drastic left/right, especially power? If so it makes sense.

Yes it is, and in my opinion this move makes sense.

That's poor, s*** Willie Haris could do that. I like the guy but Chipper Jones he is not, play Graffy.

This sounds like a pretty good plan to me. I'm all for it.
