Most subjects are so obvious. I don't think anyone here is reading WSI for post ideas and vice versa. Most writers are reading their peer group and networking within the industry. I doubt they are basing their careers on fan boy sites. With the hundreds of posts, you could find a post on any column idea.

 

Beat reporters and columnists do read message boards and do get ideas from them, especially beat guys who are new to it. one of the firsts things you do is look for a message board to get a feel for the team and what is being the talked about.
