October 9, 200223 yr I've done some more reading on this guy, and right now he's 31 years old. I don't know if anyone remembers back a couple years ago when the Orioles and Cuban team played an exhibition game, but Contreras was the pitcher who went 8 innings giving up somthing like 5 hits while striking out 10. He is thought of as the best Cuban pitcher in the country and was 13-4 last season with an era under 2.00 If he is 31, then I say pick him up and sign him to say a 4 yr deal worth 16 million and lets see what the guy can do. Currently he's awaiting immigration news, but this guy sounds real good and if things go well he would be an awesome pick up for our rotation.
October 9, 200223 yr Author Don't even mention those stinking Yankees. I need to email Ken Williams and tell him to go after this guy, and include with that my article in which I support him. I'm sure he'll appreciate a little ass-kissin
October 9, 200223 yr Author Well I actually emailed him, lets see if he answers my question. I doubt he really reads the email.
October 9, 200223 yr I want Thomas off the team, but that isn't happening either. He'll end up in New York or Seattle. We have no money to spend.
October 10, 200223 yr I hope KW e-mails you back with some sort of an answer..... and with that I hope he doesn't read this message board.... ever!
October 10, 200223 yr Author Ya, Mark, I'd be embarassed for him to see all your anti gay threads, and anti Irish threads and entire everyone other then yourself threads, lol. I figure, a little kiss assing and maybe he ends up getting it.
October 10, 200223 yr Contrares is going to be entering the league via the draft in this next season. Once he becomes a citizen of the U.S. This means the D-rays will have first dibs on him, and it means any pipedreams of us getting him are no longer exsistent.
October 10, 200223 yr Jason, you scared me a bit there! I first thought you were wanting Nardi back...lol. You got me good! Anyway, he sounds like he'd fit in our rotation fairly well, maybe a #2 or #3. I bet JR won't pay him though, which will make him desire going elsewhere.
October 10, 200223 yr Author Mark, the draft isn't worldwide yet, so he will not be entering the draft and if he does he won't go until the 5th or 6th round cause typically defectors don't go too early. Of course he won't be in the draft so thats a moot point.
October 11, 200223 yr http://espn.go.com/mlb/news/2002/1010/1443935.html Read this Jason then apologize for being a idiot.
October 11, 200223 yr I think he'll end up as a free agent. Even if the Rays or whomever get first crack at him, he's going to command way more than they can afford.
October 11, 200223 yr Author Mark it may say that, but trust me that won't end up happening. If that were the case then El Duque and Livan Hernandez would of been in the draft. These Cubans and the agents know how to get around things like this and its wise of them. I'd hate being in a draft at the age of 31 yrs old.
