Any boxing fans here? Finally there is a reality show mostly targeted to men. "The Contender", anyone catch this last night?? It was kick ass.

I'm not a real big boxing fan, but I thought this show was done really well. I have to admit that I got a bit teary-eyed when the guy was in the shower after he lost. Are they all going to 90 minutes or was that just for the premier?

I was watching the show on and off and from what i saw it was good. they actually had legit boxers.

They're all lighter weight guys and only go 5 rounds, so you really see some all out slugging.....and the s*** talking has already started. Hopefully the rest of the show lives up to the premier episode.

*Remember, one of the contestants recently commited suicide.

the ratings where bad last night and they where last in there timeslot

That might be the Stallone factor, people associate him with bad tv and film. He's actually pretty funny on the show. :huh Maybe they'll move their time slot. Oh well, we'll get at least 1 season.

I didn't know anything about a guy killing himself. Anybody got a link?

its moving to sunday's but abc will kill them, nbc isnt meant for realitytv.

I'm a big boxing fan and I enjoyed the show. I also like MMA, and Spike has a show called "The Ultimate Fighter" which is guys going for a UFC contract... that's very good as well

Man this show rocked last night, I really hope that NBC puts it in a decent timeslot for its duration. I'm not a really big boxing guy, but I watch a lot of reality tv, and this show is done right.

It just goes to show FOX that you can't rush things like this and expect them to be a success, with Oscar De La Hoya's version of this show being a prime example...man did that one suck.

I missed the beginning, fill me in. The guy who ended up winning the fight, how was he chosen to fight 1st? I know he chose his opponent, but how was HE chosen?

nbc is screwing up by having it on thursday night before having it moved to sunday nights, when it does move to sunday night abc, and cbs will kill it.

they had a team challenge... each team had to lug a few logs a mile up a mountain road. the winning team picks who from their team will fight and who they will fight from the other team. their original plan was for a good west coast guy to fight a s***ty east coast guy, but they switched it up.

I see, so basically his team won the challenge, so his own team picked him to fight 1st. You know that blue team has to be s***ting bricks if the yellow team's worst guy can beat their best guy.

Good stuff, I'm geeked.

That kid could fight too.

yeah wasnt the other teams guy 21-0 thats kind of embarassing to lose to a 10-2 guy.... although that 2nd round the guy that was 21-0 really took it to him he just seemed out of it the whole fight.

It was funny, even his own team was like: 'uh Dude, you don't wanna fight that guy, he's 21-0'.

in boxing records can be really misleading. There's a possibility the 21-0 guy only fought first timers or 40 year olds while the guy who was 10-2 was fighting prime fighters. It seemed to me that the 21-0 guy was not prepared mentally to fight, he wasn't nearly aggressive enough... sometimes fighters are thrown off by something in their opponents style, it seems like that's a possiblity too...

I think at 1st it surprised him that he was chosen, then it almost insulted him that he was picked. He never really had his mind game together. After that 1st round, he knew he was in trouble. I agree with the decision, but they never said what kind of scoring they used. They just said Unanimous.

What is the advantage of winning the team challenge then??

Glad to see that Ahmad guy gone. He was nothing but a trash talking, unrespectful, dirty fighter.

The winning team chooses who fights.
