southsider2k5
Busy day over there, there was also someone in the water at the Chicago River and the Van Burean St bridge. It was a wild walk to work this morning with all of the emergency vehicles around.
mreye
There was also an overturned semi on the ramp from 55 to the Ryan. I guess it spilled glass all over the expressway. I drove in and everything was fine. Must have been pretty early.

TheBigHurt35
Is it just me, or has the highway driving gotten completely out of control over the past 5 years or so? I seem to remember most people going about 10 over on the highways about 15 years ago with maybe 10% going 15 over. Now it seems like about 1/3 of the highway drivers are going 15-20 over. Have the police just given up on enforcing speed limits in Illinois and Indiana recently?
southsider2k5
Update The driver that caused all of this was fleeing two separate hit and run accidents.

What a jackass. Now he and his buddy are dead. Hope it was worth it to try and get away. :headshake
CubKilla
QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 08:29 AM) Have the police just given up on enforcing speed limits in Illinois and Indiana recently? Pretty much. Under Blago, who is trying to balance the State budget on the backs of the State workers, State Police presence on Chicagoland Expressways has gotten dangerously low. State Police are now pretty much relegated to cleaning up the messes after they happen. Fatalities are on the rise big time in '05 from '04. Time for Blago to give his wife a few million more to plant flowers alongside the expressways. Edited March 29, 2005 by CubKilla

Thing that amazes me is that (from my experience anyways), people travel the fastest on I-294, but yet the worst wrecks don't seem to happen there. My boss left his house at 5:10 to get to work between 6:30 and 7 and he didn't get here until about 8:15 (only a few minutes before me and I left at 7:45!). I think downtown is the worst because of the sheer speed differential that exisists. You have people exiting and entering the interstate while barely moving, and you have people trying to go 85mph on the other hand. It is utter chaos with all of the exits and people not paying attention.
