April 25, 200520 yr We were out garage saleing this weekend, looking for some baby furnature, when as I was looking through a pile of 25 cent books, I found this book. I don't know if anyone has ever heard of it before, but it is a little paperback book, almost 200 pages, that has all kinds of fun info and stories from Sox history. The book was copyrighted in 1978, but focuses mostly on the 60's and earlier. If anyone ever sees it, it is worth picking up if you are a collector of baseball books and/or White Sox memorablia. One fun quote I found in there was this, "Working with Harry Carry must rank with flying a helicopter in Viet Nam(sic)" This is his website... http://www.richardlindberg.net/index.htm Edited April 25, 200520 yr by southsider2k5
April 25, 200520 yr Rich Lindberg is the official White Sox historian, having written a couple of books - Who's on Third was one, and another was called something like Stealing First in a Two Team Town.
April 25, 200520 yr I bought it when it first came out after the exciting south side hit men 1977 season. Lindberg has greatly improved upon what was then a hopelessly juvenile campy writing style. He's not only the most authoritative historian of the White Sox, but he's on his way to becoming the most famous chronicler ever of Chicago history. I'm jealous. I wanted to be Rich Lindberg when I grew up.
April 25, 200520 yr i must have read this book four or five times when i was younger. i need to look for my copy when i go to my folks house the next time. i remember a line in their about comparing broadcasting with jimmy piersall to flying combat missions in the war. funny stuff.
