CanOfCorn
Not sure if this should be in this forum, it is about the White Sox, though. I was reading about fantasy closer pickups and came across this on El Duque... Orlando Hernandez, SP: You may notice something about the three White Sox I am recommending today: they are all starting pitchers. This makes sense, as the White Sox have a major-league best 2.90 team ERA. Will this last? Maybe. A lot of that has to do with El Duque, who has posted a very nice 2.35 ERA this year despite a 1.70 WHIP. If I had to predict El Duque’s season, I’d say he finishes with a 3.50 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP. With those stats, he could end up with 15 wins on the high-octane White Sox. AL: $9, Mixed: $4. Seemed fine until I got to the last sentence. When did this guy write this, last year when they picked El Duque up? I sure wouldn't call this offense "high-octane." What happened to Rotoworld? aboz56
Maybe he was talking about our high-octane pitching staff.
DBAHO
Perhaps he should be the team motivator for the offense as well.

It's not like you actually have to have a 'high-octane' offense for a pitcher to have a 3.50 ERA and win 15 games. That can easily happen with an average offense. I'm pretty sure something was lost in translation
gsoxs1
high-octane White Sox. At no point did they mention offense. I bet they were talking abut the team in general. The team is the best team in baseball at the moment.
CanOfCorn
QUOTE(gsoxs1 @ May 2, 2005 -> 03:59 PM) At no point did they mention offense. I bet they were talking abut the team in general. The team is the best team in baseball at the moment. High Octane has been used a lot in stories of high scoring teams. It's rarely used about pitching or defense. The pitching isn't high octane, it's shut-down. There is nothing high octane about this team right now...to me, it seems he's talking about LAST years Sox. And as for the sarcasm, this is an article about fantasy pickups, not the side bars that have those hilarious sarcastic remarks. Here's a link to the article: Rotoworld article
