sox-r-us
He said he expected him to make life easier for Contreras, who had struggled under the weight of the contract he signed after a Red Sox-Yankees bidding war."Absolutely," Williams said Tuesday. "Not that we're on some kind of Friends and Family plan, but it was a little bit similar to when we brought in Uribe and we also brought in Timo Perez. They're from the same hometown, very close. We knew we had some work to do with Uribe, build some confidence, and it's difficult when you're trying to change a guy and build his confidence. We got Timo Perez because we needed him but we also knew he would make things more comfortable for Uribe." http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...cs-home-utility Edited May 12, 2005 by sox-r-us
WHarris1
In his most recent start, he fired a pitch behind the Blue Jays' Corey Koskie. The explanation at the time was he was angry because Koskie had asked the umpire to take a ball out of play, but Hernandez later revealed he was angry Toronto's David Bush had buzzed Paul Konerko with a pitch, then hit him. Nice at least some pitchers have their teammates backs. In an April start in Cleveland, Hernandez and Indians catcher Victor Martinez exchanged words, with Hernandez screaming at him from the mound. He stormed off the field after the inning and screamed he just needed the White Sox to score one run, breaking a tie, and that it would be "my game." The Sox gave him a 5-4 lead on a Willie Harris single but Martinez won the matchup with Hernandez, answering with a game-tying home run. "He has fire and heart," Cooper said. "That has been very good for us. … I see why the Yankees wanted him to pitch all those big games. He is such a competitor out there," I El Duque.
