UHL/Pang coming to Chicago

Featured Replies

ESPN hockey analyst Darren Pang is adding a new title next to his name: owner. Pang, a former goalie for the Blackhawks, will be a part-owner of the yet-unnamed United Hockey League team that will play home games at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates.

"I have always had an interest in the development of young people in the game of hockey and in building a winning professional team," Pang said. "When I attended last year's UHL All-Star Game and was with some of the league owners, that interest and my whole thought process was re-energized."

Part of the lure for Pang was being involved in a hockey town like Chicago.

"Produce a winning team and they will come see you play," Pang said. "That is what we intend to do, build a great team to play in a fantastic arena."

Can they PLEASE bring a team to my area?! While the Rosemont isn't that far, it is still far enough.

3 teams in Chicago?

Mmmmkay.

If they would bring one to the southside, it would be okay, but all three within miles of each other is silly.

I wouldn't bother counting the Blackhawks as a team after this strike.

An interesting side bet would be to see if the Wolves or Hawks draw more people when then NHL comes back.

On the bright side, it will be kinda cool to be able to see the "Komets" again

Komets lost to Muskeegon again in the Colonial Cup like last week. 3rd year in a row where they've got to the Cup. They've lost the last 2 to the Fury.

Kapko, I was reading some articles in the Toronto Star saying that they are really, really close. Now, I know we've heard this before, but are you hearing anything remotely close to what I'm seeing in the 'papers?

I cannot divulge this information.

:P

Seriously, they know they have to get something in place in the next 2-4 weeks. While they may not have an "agreement" officially for a bit longer, the concept must be in place pretty quickly so that the sponsorships will not pull their money.

My understanding is that the NHL has agreed that if the revenue share goes up, the cap will go up. Conversely, the NHLPA has to take it in the shorts if revenue goes down. In other words, a sliding cap is what will be in place - something the NHL said would "never happen".

It still provides cost certainty and allows both sides to save face.

Anyway, by June 20th, they should have something in place.

WTF is the UHL? I know it's hockey but what league?

Or Useless Hockey League.

Just depends on how you look at it.
