LosMediasBlancas
As I was walking to get on the green line after Saturday's game, I noticed that IIT has a parking lot right by the green line. Their sign reads something like: IIT blah, blah, blah parking" but I saw a lot of Sox fans getting in their cars and leaving. I didn't see a booth or anyone collecting cash. Is this a free lot? Steff
None of the lots have booths. They have someone taking $$ at the entrance before the games. ITT and the Sox are partners in using their lots for overfull. Nothing is free over there.
Guest JimH
Yup, the only free parking is outside of the official White Sox Resident Permit Parking Area. To park on the streets in the immediate neighborhood, you either need to live there or get a guest pass from a resident or neighborhood business. The Resident neighborhood (east-west) is defined as Wentworth on the east to Halsted St. on the west. One east/west exception is between 34th and 35th St. where the western boundary is Morgan St. The Resident neighborhood (north-south) is defined as 39th St. or Pershing Rd. on the south, to 29th St. on the north. One other note, the commercial streets do not have any resident sticker/premit parking restirctions. Those streets are 35th, 31st, Pershing Rd. (39th), Halsted St. and the west side of Morgan St. That means if you can find street parking on those streets, you can park there. Problem is, almost all spots are metered and they are pretty diligent about checking meters on game days/nights. ****************** Which means, if you can find street parking near the Green Line, it's free unless you have to feed meters. My understanding is there are a number of street spots (non metered) near the Green Line. Personally, that's not worth it to me, but if you want to save a few $$ on parking, that's an option. SleepyWhiteSox
Nice catch. I know that it's open during the week and free, at least when I've used it. I have parked there once for a game without a problem (again, only once so I'm not sure if it's always open) on a Tuesday when there was no overflow. I am guessing that the lots are usually open but they probably are only out collecting payment when they're directing people over there on big crowd days. De La Salle also uses the lot and I also park there without a problem weekday evenings when I take my brother to his games, but we're out of there by 9. I doubt there's a problem leaving about an hour after that and there wasn't for me on the one occasion. My excuse, if I ever have a problem, will be that I was visiting De. No one collected cash from you before the game as you parked? Shhhhhh, don't tell anyone else.
