Minor League Teams

Featured Replies

a thought occured to me earlier today.

In the past when the sox were hurting for attendance, I wonder why they didnt try and move one of their local Rookie, A, AA or even AAA teams to the Chicagoland area.

The Iowa Cubs draw pretty well. Why couldnt we have the Kane County White Sox? Kane County already draws well but it could be a big plus to the Chi Sox if fans could follow their favorite minor league guys to the bigs.

As it stands right now, the Sox have affiliates in SC, NC, AL, MT and VA. What no Sox fans in rural IL, WI, IN, IA, KY, OH, MI that would like to see the team but cant drive 3+ hours to go to a game?

AAA= Indianapolis Indians, Iowa Cubs, Louisville Bats (Reds), Columbus Clippers (Yankees), Toldeo Mud Hens (Tigers)

AA= Akron Aeros (Indians)

A= Too many to list. (2 in Illinois) (3 in Indiana) (4 in Iowa) (2 in Wisconsin) (1 in Kentucky) (3 in Ohio) (3 in Michigan)

I know the White Sox like having their minor league affiliates so close to each other. It makes player movement between the teams much easier. I believe the teams are all within 6 hours of each other.

i hope you mean 6 hours via bus because you can basically cover the country via plane in 6 hours.

Yeah, driving distance.

in looking at the list, I guess you are right. the only exception to the rule is the Great Falls rookie team in Montana. That's a long drive to A- North Carolina.

s***, minor leaguers would probably kill their own mother for a plane ride

They were in South Bend for a few years. I don't know why they changed, but I think you have a great idea. Although, no matter where the team is, if the affiliation is long enough, it creates a fan base.

Not so fast there. I am a die hard Sox fan from rural MI. I know several more.

I have nothing against the states of North Carolina and Alabama (especially North Carolina, that's a nice place with a great history), but I do think that the Sox could do better in non-Chicagoland Illinois and Indiana, and I think that putting affiliates out there would be a key component of that.
