Soxfest
Tim (Brea, Ca): How are the Angels a better postseason team then the ChiSOx? Jim Callis: I think the White Sox are a team that's better suited for the long haul of a season than to win three straight short series. They don't have a dominant hitter or pitcher, really. Who in their lineup, rotation or bullpen scares you? No one, in my opinion. They have several solid players and a great defense, but they don't have a pitcher who's going to go out and dominate a team, or a hitter who's fearsome with the game on the line. I think the Angels have the best balance of lineup, rotation and bullpen in the AL, and guys like Vladimir Guerrero and K-Rod can dominate in the postseason. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sean (Fort Worth, TX): Jim, how does winning one playoff series in around 50 years make the Angels the best post-season team in the AL? Jim Callis: Well, gee, Sean, we're talking about who's best suited to win this year, not about the past. And if we're talking about the past, the White Sox haven't won a postseason series since when, 1917?

Gene Honda Civic
QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 06:36 PM) So did we win the "go to the world series drawing" in 59? Yeah, back then when you had the best record in the AL, you went to the WS. There was no ALCS.

There was no ALCS. Really? That's crazy. I always thought we lost in playoff games to the Yankees in the 50s. Learn somehting everyday. I guess we are f***ed then. The Sox pennant in 59 was preceded by a 10 year stretch where the Yanks won the pennant 9 times. The year they didn't make the WS, they still had 103 wins. The years immediately following '59, the Yanks won 5 straight pennants. The Sox finished 2nd a number of times over that stretch, so it was like playoff games.
