LOS ANGELES - Former Oakland Raiders No. 2 draft pick Darrell Russell and another unidentified ex-NFL player were killed when their car crashed into a parked MTA bus on La Cienega Boulevard north of Culver City on Thursday, the Los Angeles Police Department told KNBC-TV.

A Los Angeles police detective identified the passenger fatally injured as Russell, 29, of Santa Monica.

Detective Mike Fischer of the West Traffic Division says the driver, who also died, has not yet been identified.

All world talent, unfortunately quite troubled. Sad end to a sad story

This is very sad but I had to smack myself for chuckling about all they hit.

Russell, 29, was a passenger in a car driven by former USC teammate Mike Bastianelli that went out of control about 6 a.m. and hit a curb, tree, newsstand, fire hydrant, light pole, another tree and an unoccupied transit bus, Lt. Paul Vernon said.
