December 17, 200520 yr QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 03:55 PM) now we've got Vazquez playing in the WBC along with Tadahito, Freddy and Buehrle. Did they list all of the relievers yet, because i am surprised that neal or cliff didn't make it in.
December 17, 200520 yr I don't get all the fuss. Before the WBC begins, non-Asian players will report to their own MLB team camps at the regular time to start their training, then they leave on Mar 3 to play in the Tourney. The Asian tourney camp opens Feb 26 and I'm not clear if they will start at the MLB team camps first, the mandatory reporting date to MLB team camps is Feb 28 this year, voluntary for pitchers/catchers is Feb 16, everyone else Feb 21. During the Tournament there are (by rule) pitch count limits for the hurlers and innings limits for the position players. As soon as any team is eliminated the players go back to their own MLB camp, the last game for the champion is Mar 20. The entire show is owned by MLB and MLBPA so there is no interest in abusing the players. It doesn't seem to me that anyone will get more work than they would have if there was no tournament.
December 17, 200520 yr I think this is gonna be fun to watch, actually. From what ive been hearing most people seem totally against it. I do wish it started a little sooner though...
December 18, 200520 yr Why not just do this once every 4 years at the Olympics? I am not sold on this format and I doubt I will have much interest. Won't March Madness being going on at the same time?
December 18, 200520 yr QUOTE(JoeBatterz @ Dec 18, 2005 -> 06:07 PM) Why not just do this once every 4 years at the Olympics? I am not sold on this format and I doubt I will have much interest. Won't March Madness being going on at the same time? It is going to be every 4 years after the initial years of 2006 and 2009. Yes, March Madness and WBC are at the same time.
December 18, 200520 yr QUOTE(Pierzynski 12 @ Dec 18, 2005 -> 06:10 PM) WBC looks like a joke. it sure seems that way... when Cuba is not allowed to participate, that takes a lot of the fun out of it. my interest is to see these non major leaguers facing major leaguers. i dont agree that these guys should be in the Olympics, though. to take two weeks out of the major league season would be insane.
December 19, 200520 yr WBC looks like a joke. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Its a Selig Idea.. Your statement is a no brainer.
December 19, 200520 yr Even worse is that its going to follow directly after the World Cup. THe World Cup is such a well done international tournament, and than with the WBC following on its heels, its just going to make that look worse. Even though America isnt a soccer nation the World Cup still draws considerable interest here. Because of that I think the WBC will just pale in comparison.
