Guest JimH
Does anyone know if he signed with anyone, it looks like he's still a free agent. I remember this guy being really tough on the White Sox when he was with Oakland, and his bio says he lives in suburban Chicago. I recall he's been contemplating retirement for the last year or two, but he'd be a nice replacement for Vizcaino perhaps, if he's still on the market. SSH2005
He retired in early October due to shoulder and knee problems... http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/12796185.htm MECIR RETIRES More than a few players and manager Jack McKeon could be making their final appearances in a Marlins uniform this afternoon. But only reliever Jim Mecir is certain not to return. He's retiring. ''I know it's time to go,'' said the 35-year-old pitcher, who has born with clubbed feet but overcame his physical handicap to fashion an 11-year career in the majors. ``I don't feel strange or anything. Now I know I'll be done, can look back on my career, and probably enjoy it more.'' Mecir, who has been battling shoulder and knee problems much of the season, said he wouldn't be disheartened if he doesn't get a chance to enter the game this afternoon and pitch. He said he's glad he got the chance to deliver one scoreless relief inning Wednesday against the Nationals after walking the only two batters he faced and receiving the loss in his previous outing, Sept. 16 against Philadelphia. ''I didn't want to end up on that,'' Mecir said. ``I've seen guys who have good careers, great careers, and sometimes hang on a little too long. I was worried about that [going into this year], that it might have been a little too long.''
Guest JimH
Thanks, did not see that, moderators please feel free to delete the thread. He shows up on the mlb free agent tracker as still out there, but I know he was contemplating retirement and he's followed through.

Mecir would have been a good pickup to replace Vizcaino. He was tough on righties and lefties.

Yea great, we would be looking at club foot plus the other guy with no arm, whats next a blind pitcher. We made a mistake by waiting too long to get a reliever. its still a hole and now we have to look at guys like Baj and tracey to come through on a solid defending world champ team. Only mistake KW made.
heirdog
Any thoughts on Felix Heredia or Alan Embree? I hope Arnie Munoz wins the lefty specialist role in ST with his wicked curve but in case it doesn't work out, what about these two guys? He still wants a guaranteed contract though... Latest News Jan. 8, 2006 - 10:07 pm et The Rockies have spoken with free agent Alan Embree about a minor league deal. This is the first Embree rumor in a long time. The soon-to-be 36-year-old left-hander has probably been holding out for a major league contract, but he might not get one.
