playing the respect card

Featured Replies

i am a fan of the sox, the bears and illinois and it seems as if each of these fanbases is at times obsessed with the idea of "respect" whether it is from media, other fans, other teams, coaches whoever.

no article that is not some huge homer piece can go by without someone filling the email inbox of the writer with anger and vitriol. no criticism can pass without someone getting a chip on the shoulder.

and i will say this is evident throughout the sports world today. the teams listed above aren't alone in this. hell, sometimes the teams themselves can't let anything pass without saying "no one believed in us."

this s*** gets so old it is unbelieveable. why is this happening? i don't recall in years past that this was the case. are people just overly sensitive, or are we so miserable that even in our most glorious times the slightest bit of criticism can not be let to pass without claims of disrespect.

i just don't get it.

The Bears don't deserve any respect based on what we've done over the last 2 decades. Hell, we even f***ed up the 1980's teams, shoulda won 2 or 3 Super Bowls instead of 1.

White Sox fans will always have an inferiority complex because of the Cubs here, and the Yanks and Red Sox out east. That's how it will always be, and to be honest, I see why our fans get pissed because we get NO respect.

Illini fans....well I am glad our fanbase supports the teams so much, but Illini fans are oversensitive idiots for the most part when it comes to the media.

That site is a damn plague, they give Illini fans a bad name. But at the same time, too many of us have an inferiority complex with the media, when in reality they really don't hate us.
