For what it's worth, Chris is going to become the new singer for Fuel.

They've struck a deal to buy out Chris' AI contract so he can record the new disc and then tour.

There's some debate whether AI will allow this to happen until the summer tour ends.

I like Fuel a lot, but I've never heard this guy sing. I hope he fits Fuel's sound.

His cousin is Johnnie Putnam from WGN's overnight radio show, and she keeps saying what an idiot she thinks he is for quitting the band. But she didn't say why either, at least not that I heard.

They do make CD's and other things so that you can bring your music with you and you don't have to listen to the radio. Just letting you in on a secret.

I think it is pretty easy to envision Chris being the most successful guy from this season no matter who wins it. You couldn't get a better situation for an idol by surrounding him with a band that fits him perfectly. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

When I get my iCrap for my birthday, I'll bring my whole collection with me and then I won't listen to the radio as much.

But I'll still bring my little Walkman, because I like to hear the news of the day and I have no intention of subscribing to podcasts.

I guess you know this by this point, but three songs each. First one chosen by Clive Davis, the second by one of the judges and the third chosen by the contestant.

 

I thought Taylor was the best, followed by Katharine and then Elliott. I'll go ahead and predict that order of finish from here on out, even though I originally predicted Kat would win. I think Taylor just has too big of a following at this point.

Brett Scallions, Fuel's former lead singer, is now playing bass for two bands, The X's and Circus Diablo ( with Billy Duffy from The Cult on guitar ).

Rumor has it that Brett's voice is shot, but he strongly denies this. He had surgery to correct a deviated septum, but the things I've seen online indicate that this type of surgery would not damage the pitch or strength of a singing voice.

He's under contract with American Idol until the end of the summer, so I wouldn't expect him to decide anything right away.

Overall, not a great song choice night (which can really be said any time I have to hear "I believe I can fly." I agree that Taylor had the best night. But I was bored through most of Katherine and Elliot's performances. Maybe it was just my tv set, but I thought that Katherine's version of Over the Rainbow was not hot (and at times almost painful).

Boy last night the differences were profound. Taylor was by far the best, and Katharine was way better than Elliot. Elliot looked scared out of his mind last night. Katharine did to for her first song, but was OK after that.

There does seem to be a judges attempt to sabotage Kat. Her's and Elliot's voices are both just as technnically sound, but Kat has a stage presence that is really captivating. Elliot has none. I never hear Kat being flat or "pitchy" (a favorite word it seems).

 

It was funny, once Clive said that he wanted Elliot to do Journey, I did a Randy impression of what he would respond with. I was pretty much dead on, even with all the Randy-isms.

 

I think Taylor will win. He's the one out of them all that is seasoned performer. The guy obviously has done his time on a stage and it shows. Hopefully if he does win it AI will let him bring his band with him.

Speaking of Clive...I don't know where he was going picking "I believe I can fly" for Kat, I thought that was a horrible choice. As for them picking their own songs...I think they all pretty much suck at it except for Taylor.

Listening back to his Suspicious Minds performance from his last show, I thought that was one of the stronger performances of the whole season, it's just too bad his second performance that show wasn't as great or I have no doubt he'd still be in.

Tuesday night should be a good night. Two of the three songs each will sing will reportedly be repeats from some point this season. I predicted about 6 months ago that Kat would win and Taylor will finish second. Two weeks ago I reversed course. I do think Taylor will win, but it seems the results aren't very reliable at this point.

 

With all three contestants at 33% and change last week, that just tells me that the phone systems are maxed. I don't think the voting would be so close if there was more capacity to take votes. When people reportedly call for two hours and get busy signals 90-95% of the time, then the votes aren't getting counted. I'm not sure if they can remedy that this week, but as popular as this show has gotten, the voting procedure certainly has come into question in my mind.

 

Either way, I think all of the top 5 or 6 contestants were very talented this year, more so than others. I think you will see at least decent success from many of them. Tuesday night should be fun.

Well tonight is the nights... Just for fun, pick a song, artist or style you would pick for each contestant...

 

For Taylor I would love to hear him sing somemore of the gravely rockers around. Something like Jim Croce, Bob Seager, Joe Walsh, etc.

 

For Katharine I would like to hear her sing something with some soul and range. I could see her knocking out some Aretha or something like that.

I want Taylor pulling out some Sam Cooke. Another Otis tune would be cool also. He needs to hit on his Soul, R&B and or Gospel influence and it will all be in the bag.

Rumor has it Taylor may break out the harmonica tonight.
