Featured Replies

Tribune sports columnist Rick Morrissey was honored as the second-best columnist in the large newspaper category, the Associated Press sports editors contest judges announced Tuesday.

Morrissey was honored for a collection of his 2005 work and finished second to Joe Posnanski of the Kansas City Star in the over-250,000 circulation division. Mitch Albom of the Detroit Free Press finished third while Bill Plaschke of the Los Angeles Times and Gary Shelton of the St. Petersburg Times tied for fourth.

The Tribune's David Haugh and Philip Hersh each finished fourth in writing awards. Haugh was honored for his feature on Ernie Banks while Hersh was cited for his game story on Northwestern women's lacrosse team's NCAA title.

Scott Nychay and Joe Stevenson of the Northwest Herald won first place for explanatory writing in the under-40,000 circulation category.
