Brewers place Sheets on 15-day DL

Move expected; veteran eligible for re-instatement April 8

By Adam McCalvy / MLB.com

The Brewers officially placed Ben Sheets on the 15-day disabled list Thursday.

Sheets' move to the DL, with what officially is being termed a right posterior shoulder strain, was expected. He had strained a back muscle this spring near the one he tore last August.

Sheets' assignment was backdated to March 24, and he is eligible for re-instatement beginning April 8.

Sheets is expected to travel with the rest of the team to Milwaukee for Opening Day festivities before departing for a Minor League assignment, possibly at Double-A Huntsville, where the warm weather is favorable for rehabbing players.

Sheets made two starts this spring, going 0-1 with a 27.00 ERA.

Geez, these guys are droppin' like flies. It makes you apperciate how durable guys like Buehrle and Garland have been over the years even more.

It doesn't look like he'll miss time if he can stay healthy the rest of the season, but he's barely made any spring training starts. This really sucks for the Brewers who might actually be playing for something after all these years.
