Adam's Ribs from MASH

Featured Replies

I was watching a reun of MASH and talked about a place in Chicago called Adam's Ribs. Is there such a place like Adam's Ribs in Chicago? I think it was Dearbon and State St.

And before anybody says don't believe everything you see on TV, there is actually a Packo's Hot Dogs in Toledo.

I've never been there, but I'm almost certain it exists, or did. Didn't they even have commercials during M*A*S*H reruns? (Not sure if it's the original, but I seem to recall these. With mention that they could 'feed an army', or something like that.)

Mash is a great show. I hated it when I was younger but now I'll watch the reruns from time to time.

I'm pretty sure there was not an actual Adam's Ribs in Chicago at the time of that episode or during the Korean war when it was supposed to be occurring. There may be one now, as I know there is a chain of them in Maryland now.

From an article called "Dining in Chicago".

In a town known for it's blues and jazz, it's only natural that ribs would come with the territory. There was even a classic M*A*S*H episode about an adventure of having Adam's Ribs sent to Korea. Certainly, Adam's is worth the effort. There are several other places, most notably Carson's, which annually wins awards as tops in town. But the best ribs in Chicago are found in a small family-owned place that has been around for 50+ years. The meat at Twin Acres (in Old Town near Lincoln Park) is so tender it practically falls off the bone when picked up off the plate. This is a friendly neighborhood joint with only one location and about eight tables. Hungry diners must arrive early.

So apparently it does exist. At least, it apparently did when this undated article was written.

Editted to add: The above is ONLY reference I can find about this place, so I still can't say for sure if it does or ever did exist.

Adam's Ribs:  Located beside the Dearborn Street Station in Chicago, Illinois.

------------

Phone number (on the show) of the Dearborn Street Station was

Dearborn 5-7500 and Adam's Ribs was Dearborn 5-2750.

Shyam K. Sriram claims that Adam's Ribs exists and gave me this address:

1514 North Broadway, Joliet, Illinois, USA, 60521

He also says that there really is a Dearborn Street Station, and that

Dearborn St. and North Broadway intersect, so Adam's Ribs is indeed

located "near the Dearborn Street station".

(Phone number to follow soon, hopefully.)

I heard that it was fake though.

In a 2009 interview, Larry Gelbart revealed that Adam's Ribs was strictly imaginary. There was no such restaurant and no establishment served as its inspiration.
