You are so right that during a couple of those SCORCHING games last summer (e.g., the Cubs series at the cell), I remember that they wore their black jerseys. And I remember thinking they must be roasting their ASSES off in those.

 

I was in the outfield in the home white and even I was dying. I'm not kidding. I remember the Cubs series, Boston (mid-summer) and I think Oakland as just being unbearably hot and sweating my ass off.

 

To the other point, the "alternate" old school jerseys this summer are BUTT UGLY. No thanks.

 

I wish they would have the 1917 cream colored ones again--I have the blue but the light colored ones disappeared.

Im pretty sure that letting the pitcher select them was something that came with Ozzie.

 

I dont remember Manuel or prior managers doing it.

Is pitcher's choice a team thing or an established custom around the league? I'll join those in saying it's the first I knew that, I assumed the team had to notify the league in advance if they were making a uniform switch. I figured there was a schedule laid out at the start of the year since some of the uniforms corresponded with special events.

 

Google search, Diamondbacks have the SP select.

I am fairly sure a lot of pitchers around the league get to pick what uniform. I have heard this many times.

 

To me, the black isn't so much of an alternate. We wear it so much, it kind of is part of the unis. Teams like the Red Sox with their red, now thats a rare alternate.

 

The blacks are my fav fwiw.

On the official website, they're selling something called "Cool Base" jerseys, which apparently will be worn by players this year during super-hot games. The only one they have on the website is black.

 

I remember reading that the team was mad at Garcia for choosing the black jerseys for that game against the Cubs, but he had performed we'll in it before or something, so he thought it was good luck. :headshake

All I know is I love the black jerseys. They look badass. But I would think they would avoid the black on hot, sunny day games even if they are on a winning streak.

i've seen those, they aren't coming out till june though. Looks pretty good. I think that'll be my next jersey, I don't have an authentic black one.
