Scenario #1 - Sox win Wild Card, Detroit wins Division with best record

 

ALDS SOX at NYY, OAK at DET

- No Home field advantage

- No West coast travel unless OAK wins ALDS

 

 

Scenario #2 - Sox win Division with best record in AL, Detroit wins the WC

 

ALDS OAK at SOX, DET at NYY

- Home field advantage thoughout playoffs

- Must travel to west coast in ALDS

 

 

Scenario #3 - Sox win Division, NYY with best record in AL, Detroit wins the WC

 

ALDS OAK at SOX, DET at NYY

- Home field advantage for ALDS

- Must travel to west coast in ALDS

 

 

Scenario #4 - Sox win Division with best record in AL, Boston wins the WC

 

ALDS BOS at SOX, OAK at NYY

- Home field advantage throughout playoffs

- No West coast travel unless OAK wins ALDS

 

 

Scenario #5 - Sox win Division, NYY with best record in AL, Boston wins the WC

 

ALDS BOS at SOX, OAK at NYY

- Home field advantage for ALDS

- No West coast travel unless OAK wins ALDS

 

 

Assumptions -

OAK will win the West with the worst record among Division winners.

If two teams come from the Central the WC will always play vs the East Divison champs.

If two teams come from the East the WC will always play vs the Central Division champs.

NYY and BOS are interchangeable. In scenarios 1-3 the East only sends one team, in 4-5 they send two.

 

It seems like there are drawbacks to each, but which one gives the Sox the best path to the World Series?

Make the playoffs by any means necessary .

I say any scenario that gets us into the playoffs. After taht I don't care who we have to play because you got to go through the best to win it all. Whether thats the Yanks, BoSox, Tigers, Angels, A's and than Mets or whoever in the NL.

 

We don't pitch and play good baseball it'll all be moot, but I really could care less how we get in, as long as we do get in (ie wild card or division and who we play). I do care that we get in by playing good baseball cause that would give us a fighting chance in the post-season.
