November 11, 200223 yr That the Phillies have supposedly came very close to signing Tom Glavine and Jim Thome. It is a verbal agreement and I didn't even know teams could talk, but ESPN News was yapping about it.
November 11, 200223 yr thome has until the 14th of this month before anyone can talk with him.... so i suppose a little courtship isnt any harm... the tribe knew he was going to phillie on last thursday and knew they were going to offer him somewhere around 15 mil to sign..... they told him before he left that their offer would not even come close to matching the phillies offer and that if he were to come back and counter that it would be pointless.......so its no surprise there about thome.....and im not surprised about glavine....i figured they would be courting maddux as well though.....phillies have made it very clear they are about the only team whos not dumping payroll but spending on it so they can fill up the new stadium this upcoming season...........look for a good number of good F.A.'s to head that way............

November 12, 200223 yr Author Great move, they are going to be world series contenders. They have some good young pitching and they are going to place veterans around it. They also have some great young position players. Look out for the Phillies.

November 13, 200223 yr They supposedly sought David Bell too. That's about 32million a year for those 3 or close to that range, I think that Strike Out king Thome isn't worth that 15mil+ ish money?
November 13, 200223 yr Author From what I heard today they offered over 100 million for the 3 of them, or something like that. I think Thome will command 15 mill, Glavine around 12 and Bell 4 mill or so.
November 14, 200223 yr they may not win their division but they will fill that new park of theirs with a few good names.... hmm wonder why we didnt think of that..........
