Brian Downing

On this date in Sox history, the Sox traded Brian Downing to the Angels in the Bobby Bonds deal.

It's a shame they couldn't have found a way to keep Downing out of that deal!

Statmandu had it right. Bobby Bonds hit 70 HR after leaving the White Sox in 1978, he went to the Rangers for Claudell Washington and Rusty Torres.

Bonilla hit all but two of his 287 career HR after being traded to the Pirates for Jose DeLeon.

I'll never forget the sign in RF: Washington slept here.

I've always suspected that the Pirates 'loaned' us Bonilla for a year. We got him from the Pirates and traded him back to them after one season, when it obvious he was going be a big time player. I've always that the trade of Bonilla back to Pittsburg was agreed upon when he was traded to the Sox. The hell of it is, it's been so long that I can't remember what it was that made me suspect that. It may have been protection from the Rule 5 draft or something along those lines.

as far as i recall, the pirates left him unprotected in the rule 5 draft and we took him. they probably thought they'd sneak him through. pirates gave us deleon to get him back. he had awesome stuff in his younger days. we then traded him for lance johnson.

DeLeon was the Vazquez of his day. Nice talent, mediocre results. He did net the Sox the One Dog who played a big part on some very good teams.

Its a bit of code that you can have show up in a few different places, but it scrolls headlines of new articles from whatever sites you set it up to monitor.
